Job Summary
Support the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) Office of Facilities Management (OFM). The Construction Project Coordinator will support the teams that report to the Director of Maintenance Operations and Special Projects. The construction project coordinator will handle a variety of jobs simultaneously and react to rapidly changing job priorities. The construction project coordinator will work as a team with other facility employees as well as work individually to plan and organize daily duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate contractors, engineers, and in-house crews with the campus faculty and OFM partners to complete construction projects on campus as assigned.
  • Will perform long- and short-range scheduling, setting milestones, and adhering to deadlines.
  • Leading troubleshooting efforts when obstacles arise.
  • Scheduling utility shutdowns, inspections, space access, and coordinating other trades during the construction phase of a project.
  • Keeping directors informed of progress and issues that will delay the project or increase the budget.
  • Keep track of the project budget and expenses.
  • Coordinate and monitor in-house construction projects and repairs on campus to ensure all trades, vendors, or contractors involved are maintaining their schedules.
  • Ensure proper notifications are made to the campus and that you complete inspections during the different scopes of work.
  • Schedule inspections with other trades (when required).
  • Complete and/or assist with project initiation procedures and internal paperwork for new construction projects or building maintenance repairs (20%) assigned to the in-house crews. These in-house shops include:
    • Carpenter
    • Sign and Paint Shop
    • Plumbing
    • Electrical
    • Grounds and landscape design
  • This includes the bid package, if required, and scheduling construction activities with contractors and campus partners for the duration of the project.
  • Development of the project budget if required.
  • The completing project closeout documentation includes built documents, substantial completion forms, closing work orders, and ensuring the punch list items have been addressed.
  • Archive all required documents during and after project completion.
  • Monitor campus building conditions and create work orders when needed to include:
    • Student Engagement Lounges and Space
    • Hallways and corridors
    • Classrooms and any other public space
    • Glass and white boards in classrooms
    • All campus restrooms and locker rooms
    • Oversight of new classroom seating and repairs
    • ADA student special needs and furniture inventory
  • Management of the following work order tasks:
    • Management of the flooring Installations and Repairs
    • Management of the Window Treatments and Repairs
  • Drives a UTA vehicle.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma with three to five (3-5) years experience in construction coordination, facilities maintenance, and repair operations or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree within the construction field may count toward the experience requirement.
  • 10 years experience in facility operations and maintenance.
  • Proficient in e-Builder and PlanGrid construction software.
  • Design experience with being able to do a one (1)-page furniture layout.
  • Experience in facilities construction and administration for large campus-type facilities.
  • Comfortable working with campus faculty and staff, providing good customer care, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Project management certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of general construction and materials.
  • Proficient in Project, Excel, and Word.
  • Must be able to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.

Other Requirements

Working Conditions
  • Work responsibilities are both technical and administrative in nature.
  • Must be able to work on ladders, scaffolding, construction sites, and on roofs.
  • Working conditions are considered acceptable but occasionally involve working around:
    • Refrigerant
    • biohazards
    • toxic lab chemicals
    • poisonous gases
    • dust
    • dirt
    • confined spaces
    • all-weather conditions
  • The ability to lift, pull, push, bend, squat, stand, sit, and kneel is required.

Special Conditions for Eligibility
  • Class “C” Operator’s Driver’s License.
  • Security Sensitive position.
