Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Postal Clerk on the Dahlonega campus. This position is responsible for aiding the supervisor in the preparation of daily, monthly and yearly reports, as well as maintaining stamp stock, making deposits and balancing the cash and stamp stock. Responsible for mailbox management and mail sorting. Primary driver for transporting UNG mail to and from the Dahlonega City Post Office. Supervise the Commons Mailbox management. Back up driver for all other routes.

Responsibilities

  • Primary driver to pick up all mail from the Dahlonega City Post Office. Sort letter mail for departments and students. Assist in the look up of poorly addressed mail. Meter and sort outgoing mail dropped off by or picked up in different departments. Record delivery of incoming packages and tracked mail in the Web Tracking System (WTS) Software. Primary driver to return mail to Dahlonega City Post Office or different drop boxes or to the UPS store.
  • Open and close service window and maintain cash and stamp stock. Assist Supervisor in supervising the service window when student workers are working, and in making deposits for cash collected and stamp stock orders. Also maintain stock of boxes, forms and supplies related to mailing & report other supply shortages to supervisor.
  • Supervise the metering of outgoing mail if done by student workers when not performing the metering themselves. This includes outgoing packages by the different delivery services we use - FedEx, UPS, USPS, DHL.
  • Prepares daily, monthly and yearly reports. Assigns student mailboxes to incoming students and closes boxes for students graduating or leaving as needed. Oversees the forwarding of mail for students.
  • Supervise the Commons mailboxes management and delivery of mail there. Mailbox management includes opening and closing the boxes there, troubleshooting mailbox key issues, and is the primary staff member to deliver the mail to the boxes.
  • Back up driver for all other routes. As such, knowledge of all existing routes is required.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of campus departments and building locations.
  • Basic knowledge of post office regulations and services offered.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate a calculator and maintain financial records.
  • Ability to operate a windows-based personal computer.
  • Ability to drive a college vehicle. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to transport large quantities of letters and packages around campus (with or without a vehicle) in all weather and also from campus to various locations in town.
  • Ability to operate computers and basic navigation of software.
  • Ability to bend and twist, carry up to 20lbs, repetitive use of hands/arms/legs.
  • Pushing/pulling heavy carts, talking, hearing, sitting, standing, walking between 1 and 5 miles daily, Eye/Hand coordination, and reaching.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Six months experience in balancing cash drawers and making deposits, operating a personal computer, and dealing with the public.
  • Valid Georgia Class C Driver's License.
