UNM Medical Group, Inc. is hiring for a Medical Coding Auditor Supervisor to join our Compliance team. This opportunity is a REMOTE, full-time, Monday through Friday opening located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Summary

Reporting to Compliance Manager, UNM Health System Compliance, responsible for supervising the day-to-day compliance review/audit activities of the UNM Medical Group medical coding and billing auditors. Prepares and analyzes reports to monitor and improve auditing efficiency and accuracy and to evaluate workload allocation among auditors. Develops standard operating procedures and training for auditors, works with the Director to develop medical documentation policies for physicians and other billing providers, provides technical billing and coding advice to physician educators. Works closely with Compliance Manager and Executive Director, Compliance for the UNM Health System Compliance Department in identifying areas needing operational improvement.

Minimum Job Requirements of a Medical Coding Auditor Supervisor:

High school diploma or GED with at least 3 years of medical coding experience. One-year experience in a Lead or Supervisory role preferred. Certification in at least one of the following: CPC, CPC-P, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT. Certification or certificate eligible for Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA). Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required if selected for hire.

Duties and Responsibilities of a Medical Coding Auditor Supervisor:

  • Oversees the supervision of Medical Coding Auditors, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Plans, conducts and supervises billing and coding compliance reviews/audits and reports significant findings, analyzes, explains and recommends coding edits that are needed as a result.
  • Assists in ensuring that UNM Medical Group medical coding is conducted in compliance with Federal, State, and payer regulations, guidelines, and requirements.
  • Serves as principal liaison with managers and administrators of assigned clinical departments related to day-today and technical support regarding medical coding compliance review/audit activities.
  • Actively works with physician educators and department managers to provide technical coding and billing advice and communicating medical documentation policies which will foster collaboration in training, assessment of needs and problem identification and resolution.
  • Provides support to the Executive Director, Compliance by conducting research on requests received.
  • Assists in updating and refining medical coding policies and procedures, based on compliance review/audit findings and in accordance with Federal and State regulations and UNM Medical Group policies and procedures.
  • Provides advice and assistance to Compliance Manager in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of modifications to the compliance audit process.
  • Provides feedback to providers regarding results and findings from billing and coding reviews/audits, medical record documentation deficiencies, and/or to request clarification of documentation components.
  • Ensures strict confidentiality of medical records and documentation.
  • Serves as department subject matter expert for the MD Audit software system.
  • Presents significant audit findings and results and provides timely and meaningful research, analysis and recommendations to leadership throughout the organization.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
