General Summary:

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Provider Advocate role is primarily responsible for the retention and service of our in network providers. In this role, you will need to investigate and resolve provider issues while helping to expand knowledge of our services. This position responds to and resolves advanced to complex level issues related to the daily administration and operation of potential and existing providers and may involve provider education, interpreting and developing policies, procedures, and guidelines. This position is an important and key contributor to building customer loyalty which drives positive persistency and supports achieving top and bottom line growth objectives for Unum.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage in education to continually retain deep and broad knowledge of Dental Claims and administration, provider recruitment and contracting, to respond to and leverage many types of inquiries leveraging a multitude of systems and workflows.
  • Support and build relationships with in-network providers, understanding and providing education and feedback on protocols, policies, procedures, portals, and services to improve the overall provider experience.
  • Build provider awareness and engagement of Unum and Colonial brands, including but not limited to provider recognition issues escalated from the distribution team, brokers, or Colonial partners.
  • Research, evaluate and respond to service issues for providers, including claim related issues. Demonstrated understanding of where referral or escalation is appropriate.
  • Reflect a sense of provider intimacy – know who the provider is, what network they participate in with us, and their recent interaction history. Serve as the main point of contact for providers.
  • Update provider data in system of record based on contract changes received, maintaining accurate provider records. Adopt change initiatives to improve workflow, enhance the provider experience, and reduce operating costs.
  • Collaborate across multiple functions, such as marketing, sales, network operations, claims, and contact center, to educate, understand, and resolve provider concerns.
  • Coordinate the flow of information back to the provider in an organized and timely manner.
  • Meet individual goals with a continuous focus on team results.
  • May perform other duties as assigned, including special projects and initiatives.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent, relevant experience required.
  • Propensity to quickly learn and understand market dynamics relative to in network providers.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking practices and strategic/forward thinker.
  • Operate with urgency in a real-time service and multifaceted environment.
  • Solid interpersonal and negotiation skills and acts with a sense of urgency in responding to internal and external customers.
  • Solid communication skills including written and verbal, negotiation, and persuasion skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, managing a complex and high workload while simultaneously changing direction based on modification of priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to adopt change to improve process, efficiency and service.
  • Demonstrates consistency in accuracy, speed, and quality of work.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$40,000.00-$72,000.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
