What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tooling Technician position at UPG?

The Tooling Technician will perform a wide variety of duties to carbide progressive lamination tooling, including tooling maintenance, tooling changeovers, new tooling run-offs, assisting production personal on set-ups and troubleshooting. Other such duties would be gauge fabrication, assisting other departments in machined components and fixtures, including fabricating parts needed by other departments as required. Understanding basic press theory is helpful but can be trained.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Operates all manual toolroom equipment, at the highest level of proficiency.
- Fundamental understanding of basic data to make basic tooling adjustments
- Manufacture components for tooling, to include use of surface grinder, lathe, mills, all within required tolerancing.
- Ability to use and interpret a variety of measuring devices (e.g. micrometers, dial calipers, depth gauges, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and CAD generated drawings
- Does not require direction/supervision in the performance of job duties.
- Works with senior toolmakers during the training process
- Has previous mechanical background in their career in some like field such as maintenance, mechanical, machining, metalworking, etc.
- You will be required to provide your basic tool needs for this position.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent mental and visual attention required. The flow of work is constant.
- Talking and hearing are associated with the performance of the functions of the job on a frequent basis.
- Physical effort required for this position, lifts weighing up to weighing up to 40 lbs. There is constant use of both arms and hands required for this position.
- Communication with team members and production personnel are critical.
