What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cytogenetic Histo Technologist position at UPMC?
UPMC Presbyterian Hospital is hiring a part-time Cytogenetic Histo Technologist to join our Laboratory team! This role will be scheduled for daylight shift 20 hours per week Monday through Friday - No weekends or holidays required!
We are a specialty lab within the large full-service Anatomic Pathology Department here at UPMC Presby!
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of CAP workload statistics, or other statistics, as deemed necessary by the Supervisor.
- Participate in the service management initiatives of the hospital. Greet, guide, and/or direct hospital visitors in an amicable and helpful manner at all times both in local and in public access areas of the hospital.
- Promote and maintain a professional image at all times.
- Interact in an amicable and cooperative manner at all times with other peer laboratory personnel and superiors to maintain a team effort in the accomplishment of daily tasks and other related duties.
- Participate in the Laboratory and Departmental Safety Programs, and help ensure personal protection and that a safe laboratory environment is maintained overall.
- Manage utilization of the Copath Informatics System in generating daily work lists, labels, and using the system to make the work more efficient. Enter pertinent Histology Laboratory data into the computerized data collection program.
- Actively participate in the quality assurance activities of the unit, through the process of identification, monitoring and evaluation of established care indicators, assist in the identification of deficiencies in an ongoing manner, and assist in improving patient are whenever possible.
- Process and prepare tissue for Fluorescent InSitu Hybridization (FISH) analysis. Analyze FISH slides using a Fluorescent Microscope.
- Assist in maintaining the equipment in the laboratory, as directed by the supervisor.
- Perform microdilution procedures using requisite mathematical calculations. Prepare reagents, solutions and stains, as needed, according to specified instructions, along with proper labeling.
- Cooperate with Supervisors and Staff in the overall operation of the laboratory and assume supervisory responsibilities when assigned.
- Perform immunohistochemical-staining procedures daily on routine, processed and/or frozen tissue. Preparation of both paraffin-embedded tissues and frozen tissues is done on routine surgical and consult specimens. Perform microtomy of paraffin-embedded tissue and frozen tissues in slide preparation for immunohistochemical procedures.
