Purpose:
The Interior Design Coordinator is responsible for coordinating furniture planning & procurement; design; signage; window and cubicle treatment; carpet; artwork and quality control of construction and renovations projects for UPMC under the direction of the Director. Is also responsible for adherence to institutional and industry standards, budget requirements and compliance with applicable regulatory agencies. Candidates must have knowledge of furniture systems and appropriate use.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates work with the Project Managers and End Users to determine program needs and intentions of use of space.
- Procures furniture for system.
- Uses existing standards and updates standards as needed for furniture purposes.
- Must have knowledge of furniture systems as they relate to healthcare settings.
- Procure interior & exterior signage to meet UPMC standards and ADA guidelines.
- Assists with working with Design Professionals to create Bid Schedule, Phasing, and Site Utilization Plans.
- Assists with the identification of project milestones.
- Assists with performing site inspections to monitor contractors and subcontractors in order to evaluate performance against project objectives and specifications.
- Assists in preparing project status reports for administrative review.
- Makes recommendations to management for improving departmental image, employees, methods, procedures, office functions, etc.
- Prepares a written annual report listing recommended improvements.
- Fieldwork, including but not limited to, site visits to evaluate safety, quality and progress.
- Coordinates or assists with presenting the design plan and budget to the End User and making necessary adjustments as deemed adequate.
- Coordinates with selection of samples of carpet, flooring, signage and painting.
- Coordinates field inspections to monitor or evaluate performance against project objectives and specifications.
- Coordinates activities of internal and external engineering and architectural resources as well as other professionals to facilitate process development through planning phasing.
- Coordinates project status reports for administrative review.
- Follows up on field inspections to ensure necessary completed steps on corrective actions
- Reports to management on a weekly basis the current progress levels of work performed, as well as problems encountered and recommended solutions.
- Keeps abreast of the latest technical developments and regulations affecting scope of responsibility assisting with reviewing technical manuals, trade magazines, manufacturer's literature and attending approved seminars.
- Coordinates with the development of departmental budgets, control of expenses and operational policy/procedures.
- Coordinates with outside contractors for the work performance in compliance with life safety and all regulatory requirements of Joint Commission, DOH, NFPA, and conformance with Hospital Standards and Practices.
- Works cooperatively with all personnel to promote good interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships.

Qualifications
• Associates of Science Degree
• Minimum of 1-3 years' experience in healthcare construction
• Basic understanding of aspects of construction design, furniture, and signage.
• Ability to manage large volume of complex work simultaneously.
• Computer skills.
• Ability to read, write, formulate spreadsheets with Microsoft Excel, and Word.
Language Ability:
• Ability to read scientific and technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and legal documents.
• Ability to prepare business letters, proposals, summaries, and reports; using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style; using all parts of speech.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Bachelors of Science Degree
• Hospital Construction Certification ( ASHE )
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Clearances must be dated within 90 days
- Driver's License
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
