What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Resources Specialist position at Upper Iowa University?
The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for various HR tasks, with a main focus on payroll and benefit related functions of the University, including reports; ensures payroll and benefit procedures are adhered to; maintains accurate payroll and benefit records. Work is performed under general supervision and within established guidelines, policies, rules, and regulations.
Essential Duties Summary
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Demonstrates UIU Core Values of Integrity, Excellence, Accessibility, Respect, and Stewardship.
B. Responsible for the processing of payroll, including (but not limited to):
a. Ensures all payroll items are entered accurately and timely.
b. Payroll reconciliation.
c. Ensures proper payment of all withholdings.
d. Maintains Jenzabar payroll and tax controls.
e. Prepares payroll journal entries and reports for completion of the audit.
f. Prepares and submits federal and state payroll tax and unemployment payments and reports.
C. Assists with the development, maintenance, and compliance of payroll and human resources policies and procedures.
D. Maintains and updates information with state and unemployment reporting agencies.
E. Prepares year-end W-2 tax documents.
F. Reviews, reconciles and verifies source data and payroll distribution.
G. Counsels employees and supervisors on payroll and benefits questions.
H. Participates in benefit renewal and review.
I. Provide benefit and payroll analysis as needed.
J. Assist with various human resource tasks.
K. Participates as a member of the human resources department and provides suggestions for improvement.
L. Assists the Vice President for Human Resources in the administration of University compensation evaluations.
M. Engage in process improvement within the HR department.
N. Serves on University committees as needed.
O. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
Requires verbal communication (speaking, writing, and listening/understanding). Requires standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, reaching with hands, and finger dexterity necessary to operate equipment used in the position. Requires ability to lift up to 30 pounds, to see clearly at 20 inches or less and as far as 20 feet or more, to identify and distinguish colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and adjust focus.
