- Position: Patient Account Specialist
- Location: Waco, Texas
- Schedule: Full Time
- Hours: Monday-Friday, 8a-5p (In Office)
THE POSITION:
The Patient Account Specialist has the primary responsibility of handling customer contact received in person, over the telephone, by fax, or via the web. These customer contacts may be with the patient, a caregiver, or a referral source (physician, therapist, home health agency, etc.). They are to receive, qualify, and process according to URS procedures all customer orders in a timely, efficient, accurate, and courteous manner. They often are involved in investigating and responding to customer inquiries regarding shipments, products, deliveries and complaints. This employee also assists in the entire supply billing and collection cycle as directed by management.
- Adhere to all state and federally mandated documentation standards.
- Enter all documentation into Supply data base accurately on a daily basis as required.
- Resolve customer concerns and complaints by identifying problems and coordinating appropriate corrective action, maintaining accurate and complete documentation of complaints and resolutions.
- Understand and practice the rules regarding patient confidentiality, HIPAA, and compliance and safety. Adhere to all state and federally mandated standards regarding confidentiality and patient rights.
- Enter and maintain patient account profile information and accurate referral source data.
- Perform verification of insurance.
- Accurately and efficiently create the required funding and delivery documents.
- Verify Medicare, Medicaid, and Insurance coverage as required, with both primary and secondary payers.
- Ensure competence in all aspects of providers payment policies. Access information on medical justification and revenue qualification to maximize reimbursement rates. Communicate payer guidelines clearly to all staff impacted.
- Fully understand the software system and enter all information in the different fields as required. Utilize computers various reports to help identify and resolve issues.
REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and private medical billing.
- 2 years of education or experience is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience in DME or home health preferred.
