At U.S. Bank we are seeking API Product Managers to help us build the bridge between the business and technology teams for API Development Platform projects. At U.S. Bank we treat APIs as products. Our API Product Managers create API products, ensure product-to-market fit and work across business lines to deliver marketplace capabilities. As a candidate, you understand how APIs are accelerating and disrupting markets and you apply that knowledge to create product strategy, technical specifications, business models, and roadmaps. You also balance outside-in thinking with internal gap-oriented thinking, always bringing the customer and market perspective into focus. Successful candidates will have a blend of technical and product knowledge, you're well-versed in RESTful concepts and have a good grasp of the different personas. In addition, you're a great team player and visionary product owner. You're organized and accomplished in using collaborative tools to drive efficiency and knit teams together.
The API Product Manager is responsible for creating API products based on U.S. Bank service offerings. You own the end-to-end product life cycle and ensure API products are built to our high standards. You also crave the best experience for consumers of your API products and are relentlessly focused on quality. And finally, you're a doer, you're not afraid to jump into complex financial service systems and tools to analyze workflows, understand architectures, document business requirements and propose solutions.
About the Team:
The U.S. Bank Open Banking API team contributes significantly to enabling our customer-focused experience through product management, enterprise governance, standardized customer experience and developer portal platforms. We combine all those to extend the reach of our business lines and bring innovative API solutions to bank partners.
Our product managers work across the enterprise to digitally transform legacy processes and products via API products. The team must integrate into varying business line workstreams to provide above the glass experience API products and expose those on our Developer Portal. A top challenge for product managers is to coalesce work between different organizations, with competing priorities, and various capabilities - to effectively influence stakeholders to streamline priority across the enterprise. The product manager thrives as a leader and also a do-er whose passion is to turn uncertainties into concreate deliverables to our external partners
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a suite of API products and solutions.
- Create API products and solutions strategy including business case, persona development, product charters and roadmaps.
- Work closely with Sr. Product Managers to influence the product roadmap decisions and have overall ownership of the API product.
- Work closely with business line product managers to define use cases for the API and write effective user stories.
- Translates the user stories into a RESTFul API specification using Swagger tool.
- Manage customer expectations for API Products and Solutions with respect to scalability, reliability, and sustainability.
- Provide overarching vision for API products and solutions by understanding the market segments and what best in class looks like.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including enterprise platforms, engineering, architecture, and UX.
- Lead journey mapping exercises and synthesize that data into product features and capabilities.
- Manage the end-to-end API product lifecycle.
- Conduct customer interviews, apply product management methodologies, industry, and market intelligence to brainstorm and create additional use-cases for the API products and solutions using data driven approach.
- Manage API product backlog on JIRA via Agile scrum ceremonies.
- Conduct API testing to ensure the build meets the expectations of the epics & stories.
- Own all API documentation including documents for developer portal, security, sales training, onboarding, integration, support and marketing.
- Create monetization strategy for APIs.
- Work with business lines and customers to manage best-in-class, pre and post implementation developer and customer experience.
- Prioritize and implement new product enhancements based on customer feedback and market readiness.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- Experience working with APIs
- 4 years of experience managing financial service products.
- 2 years of Agile experience
- 1 year of JIRA experience
- Demonstrated experience with Developer Portals
- High attention to detail and visual presentation
- 2 years of designing, programming, testing, or supporting APIs (though no API programming will be required for this specific role)
- 4 years of Agile experience
- 2 years of technical writing experience
- Demonstrated leadership and strategy skills
- Excellent presentation skills and comfort presenting complex information to senior leadership

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, US Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401k contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $92,480.00 - $108,800.00 - $119,680.00
