The ideal candidate must be excellent at communication and able to work well under pressure. Excellent planning skills, a good sense of judgment, and the ability to prioritize effectively are also essential.
The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and should also be able to maintain good relationships with customers, drivers and co-workers.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Dispatch and monitor the movements of customer's freight. Multiple daily communications are customarily done via wireless tablets and/or cell phones, and other interactive electronic devices.
- Track shipments from inception through completion. Duties customarily involve all aspects of pickups and deliveries, including creating loads and entering new customers into the system.
- Resolve issues that may affect the scheduled times for pickup or delivery. These issues normally include mechanical problems with trucks, delays due to traffic or weather challenges, or changes requested by the customer regarding times or locations.
- Receive reports about vehicle or freight damage, accident and emergency situations and transfer to Safety for proper resolution.
- Maintain a professional relationship with drivers and customers to ensure continuous patronage.
- Plan pickup and delivery of orders in such a way as to minimize cost with the fewest empty miles available.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
Keen orientation to detail.
Excellent organization skills and logical thinking.
Strong communications skills.
Excellent follow through on daily tasks and projects.
Knowledge of DOT regulations is a plus.
Related experience is preferred.

§ Communication: He/she must have excellent listening and communication skills. Being able to listen attentively to customers’ orders and pass accurate information across to drivers is imperative to the success of deliveries. The dispatcher must also be able to sustain an open line of communication with all parties involved in the run – customer, manager, and driver.
§ Dispatching involves a lot of work at the same time – receiving calls from different drivers, customers, and managers; tracking the drivers’ progress, and arranging for dispatches. Therefore, the dispatcher must be able to multitask and prioritize effectively without making errors.
§ Excellent map reading skills and ability to use GPS devices to chart routes for the movement of the drivers is very important. In addition, an expansive knowledge of routes plied by the drivers is also essential.
§ The dispatcher must be able to work in high pressure environment.
§ He/she must be willing to work flexible schedules including working on weekends, holidays, and overtime to meet the demands of clients.
§ He/she must exhibit a high level of emotional maturity and calmness to handle the stress associated with the position well.
