Illumina is seeking a talented individual to fulfill a Scientist I role in next-generation sequencing (NGS) assay research and development. This person will use their expertise to develop new technologies and workflows in a dynamic and team-oriented environment. You will be responsible to design and execute experiments, perform analyses, and provide recommendations to the team. A strong understanding in molecular biology and/or biochemistry is required. As a Scientist 1/2 at Illumina you will work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and help create novel molecular biology tools for the preparation of samples for analysis on Illumina platforms. You will collaborate with key external and internal partners to develop new applications and demonstrate feasibility of novel ideas. Through integration of molecular biology, sequencing chemistry and hardware components, you will participate in the development of high quality, robust new products. This position will require working as a part of multidisciplinary team developing state-of- the-art technology. Responsibilities: Develop innovative technologies and assays for next-generation sequencing platforms Identify new opportunities for innovative products using the company’s core technologies Independently design, execute, and analyze experimental studies; effectively communicate findings and identify next steps. Be a strong individual contributor and take part in cross-functional team-driven collaborations Adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic development environment Required Skills & Experience PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Bioengineering, Chemistry or similar field preferred 5 years laboratory research experience Expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology with experience in a wide variety of molecular biology methods for nucleic acid analysis and manipulation Must be a creative, passionate, detail-oriented person with excellent analytical, verbal and written communications skills Demonstrated ability to effectively identify technical issues, troubleshoot and propose resolutions Exceptional collaboration skills and track record of technical achievement Preferred Skills & Experience Computational and statistical analysis – Python, R and command line Biophysical protein characterization, Immunoassay, tandem mass spectrometry experience Experience working with lab automation, liquid handling robots Concerns regarding COVID-19 continue as positive cases are experienced in the communities in which we operate.
