As Illumina continues to develop and launch world class assays, we are seeking a talented Senior Scientist to join the Assay On-Market Support and Development team in support of on-market library prep technologies. Our team supports investigations and improvements for a broad portfolio of on-market library prep products – including Oncology, NIPT (prenatal), Whole Genome Sequencing, and Infectious disease products. As a Senior Scientist, you will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of Illumina library prep products, as well as sequencing and analysis platforms. You are a technical expert working, within multi-disciplinary teams, to ensure Illumina products meet stated claims, customer expectations, and remain competitive in the markets they serve. The foundation for this role is a solid grasp of molecular biology, and a passion for collaborative problem solving. Responsibilities: Serve as an assay expert collaborating with cross-functional teams (scientific, bioinformatics, engineering, software, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, and commercial) in planning and execution of activities to complete design changes, troubleshooting projects and investigations, and with communications to the field and our customers. Makes decisions and drives ongoing technical efforts in designing, executing, troubleshooting, analyzing and presenting of findings to cross-functional teams for product quality investigations and improvement projects with on-market library prep kits, workflows, and assays for next-generation sequencing (NGS). Mentors and develops junior scientists, research associates and automation specialists to sustain best in class next-generation sequencing (NGS) products. Requirements: Ph.D. in Genomics, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other relevant degrees with 3-5 years industry experience in biological assay development OR BS/MS degree and 9 years of relevant industry experience. Experience in commercial product development of NGS or molecular-based assays. Strong organizational and time-management skills - including managing multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent oral and written communication skills required to convey complex issues, progress, and technical aspects to a variety of audiences across functions and levels. Preferred Expertise/Knowledge: Experience with on-market support and sustaining of assays OR experience with the transfer of new products to manufacturing and/or QC preferred. Hands-on experience with NGS and library prep methods from sample prep to secondary analysis strongly preferred. Experience with design controls, risk management, change management, CAPAs and failure investigations preferred. Enjoys a fast-paced, dynamic environment where individuals can develop new skills and experiences in the delivery of solutions to on-market challenges.
