Overview: The Connectivity Application Engineering Specialist is a technical Subject Matter Expert with a wide range of commercial responsibilities. These include specification reviews, product & marketing literature, maintaining product specifications, technical support to customers and the commercial organization, product training, product rationalization, new product generation, product placement, product life cycle management, technical leadership for RFP and quote responses, competitor product analysis, and product mix & trend analysis. Principal Duties & Responsibilities: •Review technical specifications for quotes and major contracts. Identify the product to be supplied, along with any clarifications or exceptions. Coordinate special requirements with Engineering and Manufacturing. Provide customer-ready responses which are commercially, legally, and technically correct. You are generally responsible for final review so that your responses can be provided directly to customers. •Leverage product and application expertise to create and/or direct all product marketing content, including datasheets, slide decks, white papers, web content and videos. This includes direct responsibility for product value propositions, writing all copy for literature, and Marcomm content direction/review. •Create and deliver customized product training to customers, salespeople and commercial partners. Training will include technical, financial and commercial content. •Generate sales both on your own and alongside non-technical sales people. Take the lead while interacting with customers by phone, video and in person. •Serve as the Subject Matter Expert on a large portfolio of connectorized assemblies and connectivity products. This will include production, costing, industry standards, laboratory and field performance, economic justification, technical promotion and installation practices. •Develop and maintain complex product information/data systems for use in the factory, commercial reports and/or marketplace. •Identify new products and/or requirements. Provide feedback during Product Development. Launch, monitor and rationalize existing products. •Work with Manufacturing, Accounting, Sales, Engineering and others on complex projects and emergent issues. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must have have established experience in the field of Engineering, Material Science or related technical disciplines with relevance in the field of optical connectivity. Relevant technical disciplines include material selection, mechanical and (telecom) optical characterization, and telecommuncations industry standards (ITU, ICEA, Telcordia, IEEE, UL, etc.). Must be skilled at explaining all aspects of optical and material behavior to any audience (installers, buyers, executives, engineers, salespeople, internal stakeholders, etc.). Must have excellent people skills, excellent verbal and written and communication skills, and the ability to persuade people. You will be involved in customer presentations, customer complaints, and sales on a continuous basis. Must be self-driven with a strong desire to win sales. Must be proficient with Excel, Powerpoint, Word, PDF software, and videoconferencing. Preference for skills in photography, video production, PowerBI and/or other platforms for content creation or data analysis. Qualifications: Minimum Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a relevant technical field (physics, material science, optics, etc.) Minimum 5 years of technical experience in the Telecom Industry or 2 years of demonstrated success in a similar role. Work Environment/Physical Demands: Works out of a normal office environment with standard office equipment available. Will be required to sit, bend, kneel, squat, use keyboard, read, write, and speak fluently. Employee will regularly be required to lift and carry objects of 10-25 pounds as needed. Employee will occasionally be required to lift and carry objects of 25-30 pounds as needed. Employee will be required to work productively and cooperatively in a high-volume, fast paced, highly pressured environment and be able to respond efficiently and courteously to unanticipated problems and crisis. This role is not frequently exposed to adverse environmental conditions, except excessive eye strain and possible lifting injuries When travel is necessary, will be exposed to typical travel environment and surroundings, construction sites and installation sites.
