Responsibilities
Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; assists with the orientation of new employees; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving equipment and or supplies that are necessary to perform essential functions; reports broken or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or department head; applies chemicals and fertilizers to trees and shrubs following manufacturer s recommendation; trims and prunes trees and shrubs, mows and edges lawns utilizing tractors, edgers, and other grounds keeping equipment; follows safety procedures when operating potentially hazardous grounds keeping equipment; patrols grounds and picks up trash, removes and disposes of clipping and debris from work area; waters lawns, trees and shrubs as needed or directed; hoes, weeds, and otherwise tends landscape beds and gardens; collects, loads, and hauls trash; reports biohazardous waste to supervisor and disposes waste according to protocol; digs holes and plants flowers, shrubs, and trees; operates a University vehicle to travel to and from work sites or transport materials; applies pesticides to plants for insects, fungi, and other infestation; works in inclement weather on routine basis; utilizes a variety of power lawn tools; assists in the instatllation and repair of irrigation systems using appropriate hand tools; loads and unloads bags of fertilizer, pesticides and other materials weighing up to 60 lbs.; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with customers, hospital and grounds staff in person and via telephone or radio systems; responds to overhead pages and digital pagers; maintains accurate and complete records; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit; completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; regular and prompt attendance and the ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications
Ability to follow written and oral instructions, one year groundskeeping or related experience and possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama.
