Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1)Working in a laboratory reviewing and writing Standard Operating Procedures; 2) Laboratory experience reviewing College of American Pathology Checklists (CAP) in preparation for the Biennial CAP Inspection; 3) Review and generate daily/monthly Quality Control Reports (Levy Jennings Charts and Standard Deviation Ranges) and Quality Assurance Reports (Quality Metrics: STAT Turnaround Time, Workload Summary, Corrected and Exception Reports) for the Laboratory and 4) Participate in the verification/validation of new laboratory methodology and equipment.

Certificate: This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is required.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Additional Information
- Conduct a variety of diagnostic and quality control testing in all areas of the laboratory.
- Perform instrument maintenance and troubleshoot.
- Manage supplies and reagents.
- Review results and prepare reports.
- Collect specimens from patients.
- Prepare specimens for shipment to reference laboratories.
- Complete all mandatory/required training.
- Conduct training for newly hired personnel.
- Conduct Proficiency Testing.
Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. A Childcare National Agency Check with Inquiries (CNACI) is required.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position has been designated as a Testing Designated Position and is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing thereafter.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination. A candidate selected to this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to annual seasonal influenza vaccination.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and Certifications from the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross within 6 months of hire.
