The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation in Annapolis, Maryland is seeking a full-time Director, Alumni Career Programs to join our growing engagement team in support of Alumni Networks, which plays a vital role in establishing and maintaining active connections between members of our alumni community. These networks also provide meaningful engagement opportunities.

The Director, Alumni Career Programs is a dynamic leadership role that requires expertise and experience in program development and alumni relations. This individual is responsible for the planning, developing and implementation of programs and projects that strategically engage alumni in strengthening programs. The Director is also responsible for the overview, direction, and execution of assigned programs in support of the Naval Academy Alumni Association's mission. Programs include Alumni Career Programs, Alumni Mentoring Program, and Alumni Memorial Affairs These programs are for "initiating and sponsoring activities which will perpetuate the history, traditions, memories and growth of the Naval Academy and bind alumni together."

The Director, Alumni Career Programs reports to the Vice President, Engagement and Communications. This is an exempt position.

This position pays a competitive salary commensurate with experience and is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus of up to 6%, when applicable. You would also be eligible for a generous benefits plan which includes medical, dental, vision, an FSA, an HSA, a fully vested 403(b) retirement plan with employer matching, 22 days of accrued paid time off (PTO) per fiscal year, 14 paid holidays per calendar year, group life insurance, short-term & long-term disability, identity theft protection, and annual opportunities for professional development. Although not guaranteed, certain additional benefits may be offered through the Naval Academy, such as use of certain recreational facilities (including the Brigade Sports Complex gym, marina, and indoor/outdoor pools).

This position is based in historic Annapolis at our current offices located in downtown Annapolis, near the U.S. Naval Academy. In 2023, the staff of the Alumni Association and Foundation will move into new modern offices in the Alumni Center, which are currently under construction on the banks of College Creek overlooking the Naval Academy and downtown Annapolis.

Responsibilities

Program Management

Career Services

  • Leads the Naval Academy Alumni Association's internal Career Programs for alumni that focuses on helping graduates prepare for and win jobs at every stage of their professional career.
    • Provides Alumni Associate Members preparation and counseling in career searches.
    • Develops Career information resources of webinars, group counseling sessions, small career events, and job-coaching sessions.
    • Research latest trends in and incorporating effective on-line career/job transition programs/platforms, to include interfacing with corporate hiring and talent acquisition professionals.
    • Establishes and nurtures local/regional joint service academy or Navy-centric business networking groups.
    • Provides counseling and guidance to approved midshipmen in a "Graduate Not Commission (GNC)" status.
    • Coordinates and markets career service topics in all Engagement Division lines of work: Classes, Chapters, Parent Clubs, SIGs, etc.
    • Develops and executes annual operational plans and budgets.

  • Serves as the Joint Service Academy (JSA) Career Programs consortium's Director - when USNA holds the responsibility of leadership for the overall SACC effort. (This could change in the future) USNA is currently the lead agent for the Joint Service Academy Career Programs consortium. This group includes Career Programs executives from West Point AOG; USAFA AOG; the Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association; and the Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Association and Foundation (collectively)
  • Supervises the Director and Associate Director of the SACC Program
  • Ensures accurate inclusion of alumni career/networking data in CRM.
  • Interfaces with corporate hiring and talent acquisition professionals.
  • Provides required summary and financial reports, performs analysis, and conducts surveys of program participants.
  • Conducts periodic review of SACC locations and hotel chain affiliations; manages contractual negotiations with SACC hotel properties and vendors; reports to consortium partners for collaboration and decisions.

Alumni Mentoring Program

  • Serves as Program Manager for the Alumni Association "Alumni Mentoring Program" (AMP) Program.
  • Markets the AMP program to Alumni and Midshipmen and encourages Alumni participation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience and proven success in executive leadership and management in civilian, government and/or military settings.
  • Proven expertise in career counseling and job/career transition services, to include experience in corporate talent management or talent acquisition fields.
  • In depth knowledge of current practices, processes and trends in the national and local civilian and governmental career/job opportunity and placement arenas; in particular, veteran-centric programs. Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to draft, manage and execute multiple diverse operations/programs, plans and budgets.
  • Current awareness of advanced education opportunities (MBA and technical degree programs, professional fellowships, and other certification programs), particularly those with veteran-centric programs.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20-30 days per year.
  • Energy, work ethic, stamina, enthusiasm, and humility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Naval Academy graduate preferred
  • Experience in a structured, metrics-driven program(s).
  • Military experience.
  • Knowledge of current Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation practices and procedures.
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Military Academy, (West Point), the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U. S. Coast Guard Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
  • Experience with Blackbaud CRM, Concur, and Questica platforms/programs.
  • Demonstrated affiliation/interaction with the Alumni Association and/or Foundation.
