The USNMF:
The USNMF performs its mission “to honor, recognize and celebrate the men and women of the sea services, past, present and future, and to inform the public about their service” through exhibits, programs and events. With the Visitor Center, the 230-person Arleigh Burke Theater, the Delbert D. Black National Chiefs Mess, and the Ship’s Store, we are located adjacent to the USN Memorial (Plaza) which is operated by the National Park Service. We have informative and engaging exhibits, are recognized as the “CNO’s Quarterdeck,” and host hundreds of events throughout the year honoring the men and women of the sea services.
The USNMF‘s vision is to become a destination location by producing great events, programs and exhibits while at the same time operating efficiently and effectively as an “employer of choice” and generating enough revenue to do even greater events, programs and exhibits.
Nature of the Position:
The Ship’s Store Retail Associate is a combination of customer service and management operations. The Retail Associate is someone who wants to work in a fun and fast paced environment selling our unique assortment of USNMF products including apparel and accessories, books, gadgets, toys, souvenirs, and more. In this position, you provide our visitors with an exceptional retail experience through proactive customer engagement, product knowledge and selling. In addition, you assist the Leadership Team with achieving sales goals, daily store operations, maintaining the sales floor and displays, stocking, and store cleanliness. This position is a part time with an average of 20 hours per week, non-exempt position and requires availability Sunday-Saturday.

Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
SHIP’S STORE
- Greet and welcome customers, responding to questions, improving engagement with merchandise by handselling and providing outstanding customer service.
- Remain knowledgeable on in-stock products and those available for order.
- Collects all types of revenue, cash/credit cards/checks, and processes all transactions through Shopify.
- Process sales, returns, exchanges, etc.
- Knowledge of products in store, including artisan information.
- Assist with stocking shelves, and packaging items for mail.
- Balance a cash drawer.
- Maintain a clean and welcoming store environment.
Measures of Performance:
· Achieve monthly, quarterly and annual sales budget.
· Achieve monthly, quarterly and annual KPIs (Avg. Sale, Daily Sales, UPT).
· Positive customer feedback and customer satisfaction surveys.
· Work collaboratively with the ALL USNMF team members.
· Accuracy in utilizing Shopify POS.
· Accuracy in handling of cash
Key Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 1 year Retail Management experience preferred.
· A friendly and energetic personality with customer service focus.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service.
· Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
· Ability to perform under pressure and address complaints in a timely manner.
· Ability to remain calm during an emergency in order to effectively and efficiently handle the evacuation of visitors and guests should the situation warrant.
