English as a Second Language Teacher

Schedule: Monday – Thursday, days and evenings available

Start Date: ASAP

There is an immediate opening available for a teacher in the English as a Second Language program at the Community Education Center (17 and Dodge Park). The ESL program serves adult students 18 years of age or older.

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate required (min. Elementary certification)
• English major/minor preferred
• Demonstrated interest/experience in working with adult students
• Technology proficiency
• Ability to foster an effective learning environment for multiple age levels
• Ability to implement multiple teaching methods, styles, and materials
• To work cooperatively with other teaching and support staff

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person instruction in reading, writing, speaking, listening, civics, culture, and work skills to adult ESL students in a multi-level classroom
• Use of digital learning tools including READ 180, Burlington English, PowerSchool, and email
• Develop and deliver daily lesson plans utilizing a broad range of appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies to ensure learners meet or exceed learning targets
• Analysis of real-time data pertaining to student learning
• Maintain communications with students regarding instruction, content, concerns, and testing
• Responsible for tracking student progress and communicating to students and administration
• Follow policies and procedures outlined by the Supervisor
• Other duties as assigned

Employment Information

Hourly Wage: $23.92 (plus prep time, UFT position)
