UW Credit Union's Accounting department is hiring for an entry-level opportunity to join our team! If you have strong attention-to-detail skills, a deep interest in Accounting, and the ability to troubleshoot through a variety of problems this is the role for you!
The Accounting Specialist is an integral member of our Accounting team. In this position you need to be detail-oriented, and a problem-solver focused on exemplary customer service for internal and external members. Duties include a variety of accounting duties focused on maintaining systems and external payments and balancing and reconciling general ledger transactions from multiple sources.

What You'll Do
- Troubleshoot Accounts Payable system problems with vendor support
- Point of contact for vendors and internal members to resolve invoicing and payment issues, as well as invoice discrepancies
- Strong knowledge of Wisconsin sales and use tax laws and apply to UWCU AP to determine if use tax accruals are necessary
- Processing of timely payments to employees for reimbursement of expenses and to ensure high level of compliance to company policies through audit of expense reports and communicating with employees regarding exceptions
- System Administrator for expense management tool as well as while providing instruction and best practices to UWCU employees for tool utilization
- Perform transactions associated with the Federal Reserve, including wires and ACH
- Analyze and interpret branch teller transactions, troubleshoot balancing issues, reconcile teller cash, and provide support and direction on correction and proper procedures
- Audit, issue and clear cashier's checks, as well as reconcile to ensure proper balancing
- Support month end close activities including preparation of journal entries, ensuring expenses are posted timely, and completing assigned account reconciliations
- Perform preparatory work prior to audits and regulatory examinations and remain an active resource during the audit/examination
- Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve departmental and corporate goals
What You'll Need to Succeed
- Associates degree in Accounting or related field required or in pursuit of a degree
- Experience working in a Retail Branch highly desired
- 2-3 years of Accounting experience preferred
- Knowledge of financial institution structure, accounting practices and procedures
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a highly collaborative environment
