Job Description:
This position is responsible for providing technical expertise and services regarding the extract, transfer, and load of data for the Department, including creating SSIS packages for the nightly build of the agency’s data warehouse. This includes but is not limited to data collected through enterprise applications such as the Wised, WISE data, the Wisconsin State Assessment System, and data reported in WISE dash. WISE dash is powered by PowerSchool Unified Insights (formerly known as Advantage tool under Hoonuit and Versify). The position is also responsible for creating EDFacts federal reporting files and fulfilling other state and federal data reporting requirements.
The person in this position is responsible for peer testing of the work of their teammates including other ETL developers and dashboard developers. Objectives, priorities, and deadlines are established in consultation with the user, director and division leadership and discussed biweekly during Agile/Scrum sprint retrospective and planning sessions.
Required qualifications:
- Expert knowledge and use of SQL
- Expert knowledge and use of SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services)
- Experience working on an Agile/Scrum team (able to work well in a team, but also highly self-motivated)
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with K-12 education data sector
- Knowledge of Power BI

Example tasks:
- Complete SSIS programs for the Edvantage/WISEdash data warehouse based on completed ETL data mappings.
- Complete automation and schedules for extraction and load process.
- Provide recommendations and solutions for business rules, SSIS package development, and data structures.
- Support / troubleshooting of the development and production environments.
- ETL developer on high priority cross agency projects such as the Digital Equity Gap collection and reporting project.
- Gather and analyze end user requirements for new data loads for the data warehouse. Complete functional & technical specifications to load data from disparate source systems into the data warehouse for reporting and analysis.
- Design and develop Microsoft SSIS packages required to extract, transform, and load data into the data warehouse. Complete testing of packages and deploy to production.
- Maintain master build and the scheduling / automation for the nightly SSIS load. Add new packages to master build and scheduler as needed.
- Complete SSIS configuration tasks, troubleshooting of failed jobs and/or processes, issue identification and resolution.
- Knowledge about the scrum methodologies and agile practices
- Working with MS SQL Server 2016 and Oracle databases
- Write queries /views/functions/stored procedures as needed
- Complete performance tuning tasks as necessary.
- Create operational processes including test cases & user documentation
- Using TFS (Visual Studio/Azure Dev Ops) for source code control, project related document sharing and team collaboration
- Regular maintenance of STAR assessment loads in the data warehouse as it includes several districts
- Upgrading the SSIS packages in both file system and package deployment model to latest versions (currently upgraded to 2016)
- Work on generating the EDFacts files used for Federal reporting
- Develop Power BI Desktop reports and public to Power BI service.
- Work with Microsoft Azure databases and SSIS packages
- Other duties as assigned relating to the data warehouse project.
