General Statement Of Responsibilities
- This position is responsible for performing skilled and technical work in the repair and maintenance of 2kW (MEP-501A / MEP-531A), 3kW (MEP-831A), 5kW (MEP-802A), 10kW (MEP-803A), 30kW (MEP-805A) and other military generators.
- Additional duties will include maintenance of batteries to include lead acid, AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) Spiral, AGM flat plate, lithium ion, battery banks, and additional Alternative Energy System (AES)
- Troubleshoot and repair alternating current electrical systems, engine related mechanical failures and performs routine preventative maintenance such as oil and filter changes and inspections on all generators.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts and initiate procurement of replacement supplies and equipment as necessary. Maintain activity logs and complete work orders and reports as needed.
- Possess the knowledge of how to operate multimeters, pressure testers, battery chargers, battery testers, hand tools and load banks.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Computer literate with the ability to develop and work with Excel spreadsheet and the ability learn the COLTS database software.

- Electrical – Thorough knowledge of 12-24 VDC, 110-240 VAC, 50-60Hz and 3 phase 208 VAC electrical systems and procedures, methods and techniques to design, install, repair and maintain generators, starters, pumps, valves, motors and
- Engines – In-depth knowledge and understanding of diesel and gas driven internal combustion engines and generator technology.
- Equipment Operation – Thorough knowledge of the proper procedures for operating, inspecting and maintaining tools and related equipment as needed to construct and maintain equipment.
- Safety - Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to equipment operation, hazardous materials and other work-related precautions.
- Shipping Assets – Assist in preparing generators for shipment as needed, such as: draining fuel, draining oil or other hazardous fluids if needed, securing batteries and terminals, etc.
- Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding
- Some combination of climbing and balancing to include climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and
- May involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
- Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.

- Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as, temperature and noise extremes, vibrations, machinery, hazardous materials, confined spaces, vibrations traffic hazards, or toxic agents, disease.
- Interpersonal Relationships – Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with employees, managers, and representatives from other departments and organizations.
- Judgement/Decision Making – Uses logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate situations; anticipates, identifies and evaluates potentially dangerous, unusual or deviating situations.
- Equipment Fault Diagnosis – Ability to diagnose faults and issues with diesel generators.
- Engine Repair – Ability to utilize a variety of shop tools and equipment to perform repairs of diesel generators.
- Equipment Repair – Re-wire, adjust and install control panels, voltage regulators, starters, adjust speed controls, various settings and any other issues that arise with diesel generators.
- Time Management – Ability to plan and organize daily work routine. Establishes priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology.
- Communication – Ability to communicate ideas effectively, including the preparation of reports and logs. Ability to listen and understand directions, information and ideas presented verbally and in writing.
- PMCS – Change filters and perform standard service on units.
- Assist with other duties as required.
- Licensed to operate various types of forklifts.
- Generator Mechanic Junior - Requires an AA/AS degree in a relevant field and 3-5 years of experience or 6 years of experience without a degree.
