What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Vaco Financial?
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations, issuance of 1099s & G/L analysis & Intercompany transactions
- Reconcile and maintain bank account, general ledger, and credit cards.
- Manage and train accounting staff and audit their work to ensure accuracy and proper ledger is maintained in accordance with standards of GAAP.
- Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports
- Make bank deposits, monitor fixed assets, manage chart of accounts.
- Evaluate cash position, cash flow and project health, including communicating any forecasted issues to owners.
- Serve as the bank account administrator, including using it to send ACH and wires.
- Audit owner's pay applications and submit draws to lenders for subcontractor work performed during the period with supporting documentation to ensure accuracy for easy acceptance and prompt payment by lenders
- Authorize and assist with payroll processing bi-weekly, prepare payroll allocations to projects, 401K reporting & payment, maintain Company Vacation, personnel records, maintain Company Benefit Programs (health, dental, life, ltd, etc.)
- Assist with external requests: insurance renewal, establish credit lines with banks, etc.
- Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all local, state, and federal tax returns and coordinate income tax returns with CPA
- Assist project managers with job budgeting and business plan control
- Assist in the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis
- Analyze, apply, and improve accounting policies, procedures, controls, and most methodologies
- Assist in accounting Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation
- Comfortable in taking on tasks beyond formal job responsibilities
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and/or Finance
- Prior experience in a senior living or multi-family environment preferred
- CPA or CPA eligible preferred
- Minimum of seven (7) years of full-cycle accounting
Skills & Specialized Knowledge:
- Must have a basic understanding of financial statements such as: balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows
- Construction Costing experience is preferred.
- Excellent communication abilities, time management and dispute resolution.
- Must be a self-starter, detailed oriented and flexible to operate with minimal direction and little to no supervision while working in a complex environment.
- Ability to work under pressure and be a team player.
