POSTION DESCRIPTION
Title: General Manager – 12 Month Full-Time
Salaried Position
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Serves as chief operating officer of the club; manages all aspects of club activities and the relationships between the club and its Board of Directors, members, guests, employees, community, government, and industry. The General manager must be able to multitask and work independently to make daily decisions for the operations of the club. Coordinates and administers the club's policies as defined by its Board of Directors. Develops operating policies and procedures to be considered for adoption by the Board. Direct the work of all supervisors. Implements and monitors the budget, monitors the quality of the club's products and services, to ensure maximum member and guest satisfaction. Secures and protects the club's assets, including facilities and equipment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Work under the general supervision of the Board of Directors.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Directly supervises Office staff, Food and Beverage Manager and Course Superintendent. Ensure compliance of Golf Professional's contract.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement general policies established by the Board of Directors; directs their administration and execution.
- Plans, develops, and approves specific operational policies, programs, procedures, and methods in concert with general policies and procedures.
- Coordinate the development of the club's long range and annual (business) plans.
- Develops, maintains, and administers a sound organizational plan, initiates improvements as necessary.
- Establishes a basic personnel policy; initiates and monitors policies relating to personnel actions and training and professional development programs.
- Coordinates development of operating and capital budgets according to the budget calendar; monitors monthly and other financial statements for the club; takes effective corrective action as required.
- Coordinates and serves as ex-officio member of appropriate club committees.
- Welcomes new club members; “meets and greets" all club members as practical during their visits to the club. Serve as liaison between members and the Board of Directors.
- Provide advice, collects information, and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors and committees.
- Ensures the club is operated with all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Oversee the care and maintenance of all the club's physical assets and facilities.
- Coordinate the marketing and membership relations programs to promote the club's services and facilities.
- Ensure the highest standards for golf, food, beverages, and other club services.
- Establishes and monitors compliance with purchasing policies and procedures.
- Reviews and initiates programs to provide members with a variety of popular events.
- Analyzes financial statements, manages cash flow, and establishes controls to safeguard funds. Reviews and monitors income and costs relative to goals.
- Works with supervisors to schedule, supervise and direct the work of all club employees. Conduct staff meetings to promote coordination and communication between departments.
- Attend meetings of the club's Committees and Board of Directors. Participates in outside activities that are judged as appropriate and approved by the Board of Directors to enhance the prestige of the club; broadens the scope of the club's operation by fulfilling the public obligations of the club as a participating member of the community.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general management practices and
- two (2) years of increasingly responsible related experience, or
- any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing; working knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Skill in operating listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to be proactive, to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish successful working relationships; ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make quality decisions quickly.
- Demonstrated experience hiring & managing staff.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Personal computer, including word processing and spreadsheet software, accounting software, phone, copy machine, fax machine.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
