What are the responsibilities and job description for the End Finishing Manufacturing Engineer position at Vallourec North America?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Vallourec Star has an opening for a Manufacturing Engineer at their East Houston, Texas location (Channelview). The main focus will be to improve product quality and reduce cost through optimization of practices and standards, trials of the new processes, methods and materials, & stabilization of improvements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Technical support primarily for Cutoff and Hydrotester manufacturing lines
- Supplement addition support on Heat Treat line as business needs justify resources in that direction
- Maintain and improve standard operating procedures.
- Monitor KPIs, such as overall efficiency and tool life, and identify sources of variation to improve them.
- Lead the Process Improvement Team(s) to tackle challenging problems.
- Benchmark with other experts in Vallourec on new technologies, processes, materials.
- Use manufacturing process control and/or advanced problem-solving techniques such as design of experiments, process capability, SPC and FMEA to isolate and reduce sources of variation.
- Use root cause analysis tools to identify temporary and permanent solutions following any significant non-conformance to quality or safety standard.
- Manage assigned capital expenditure projects for on-time and on-budget completion.
- Identify material and process deficiencies and implement innovative solutions.
- Specifies and/or designs all tooling for new products, or for improvement of existing tools.
- Writes engineering specifications as required.
- Establishes time standards for manufacturing processes.
- Other duties as assigned by Manager.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Ability to teach and promote problem solving and variation control methodologies to all levels of the organization.
- Proven ability to apply manufacturing process control techniques and/or lean manufacturing experience required.
- Ability to communicate effectively (orally/written) across all levels of the organization.
- Interpersonal skills to be able to coach and influence operational team members.
- Strong decision-making skills based on analytical approach to problem solving, including application of statistical techniques.
- Ability to work independently and execute objectives in a cross-functional team environment.
- Demonstrated leadership skills for potential carrier growth opportunities.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Material, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
- 5 years of experience in the manufacturing industry preferred
- CAD-preferred
- Certified in Lean/Six Sigma-preferred
- Experience in Manufacturing plant-preferred
SAFETY AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Observe safety rules and wear required safety equipment while on the job.
- Job will require a healthy balance of time between shop floor and office.
- Dirt, grease, oil and water are present throughout plant.
- Parts of manufacturing plant reach noise levels that require hearing protection.
- Work for extended periods of time in ambient temperature ranges from 20 to 120 degrees F.
- Duties performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to outside weather elements.
- May occasionally be required to perform duties in a confined space.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms.
- Some climbing/balance required.
