Under the direction of the Drafting Supervisor, the Drafting Technician 3 shall perform a wide variety of functions relating to the generation of original or revised drawings. These functions shall be primarily related to the preparation of new and revision of existing drawings and assisting in the creation and maintenance of templates and standards as directed, perform tolerance studies and assist engineers with design layout drawings. Job duties will include:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepare or revise drawings using primarily Autodesk Inventor and some AutoCAD. Create material specifications and other related reference data based on research and engineering input. Drawings required are primarily for new product introduction documentation and upgrades to existing products. Also range from product application designs, site plans, illustrations, proposal drawings, part drawings for Projects and Sales Orders, etc. Close coordination is required with the Project Engineer and team members while preparing drawings.
- Perform investigative and reference work as directed. Examples include finding referenced Sales Orders, EH project folders, pertinent archive drawings, research for creating material specifications, etc.
- Perform tolerance studies to verify part fit and make recommendations as necessary, these would usually consist of studies related to documentation for new designs and customized parts.
- Assign and maintain part numbering systems as required. Maintain Database logs and indexes.
- Print, copy, route, and file documents as needed. Create Transmittals & Add/Change forms as required.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in cross-training of other drafting technicians as directed.
- Recommend design changes to improve quality, performance and reduce manufacturing costs.
- Assist in product design as directed.
- Perform other duties and assignments as designated by supervisor.
- Act as backup to other department functions as directed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school or vocational school graduate with a curriculum including at least two (2) years of drafting (manual or CAD) is required. At least four (4) years of drafting experience required using parametric modeling software and AutoCAD. Must have working knowledge of Windows, Autodesk Inventor/ AutoCAD, and MS Office software. Experience in a variety of engineering drafting disciplines, checking drawings and doing tolerance studies is desired. The person in this position must have good oral/written communication skills, with a keen sense of detail. They must have the ability to perform basic math calculations with good numbers aptitude.
