Make an Impact:
The Varsity Spirit Marketing & Communications team is looking for a Director of Communications to champion and execute Varsity Spirit’s communications strategy. The successful candidate will report to the SVP of Corporate Communications and will be responsible for partnering with business leaders regarding communications best practices, as well as establishing internal and external communications programs and initiatives in alignment with the company’s vision to empower young people to be both athletes and leaders, provide them with the apparel, training, and education to excel, and create unique opportunities to showcase their skills at events.

Day in the Life:
- Stay up-to-date on current business goals, key stakeholders, and audiences
- Partner with a diverse network of stakeholders in the development and delivery of communications strategies and creative tactics across a variety of communications channels that capture attention and inspire behavior change.
- Provide strategic input on messaging and positioning; influence stakeholders as needed to ensure communications are compelling, clear, and aligned
- Coordinate public relations activities
- Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts within business and industry media
- Manage media inquiries and interview requests
- Collaborate on the development and maintenance of a robust communications infrastructure (intranet, digital screens, video, etc.)
- Develop communications materials for internal and external audiences including executive communications, press releases, media pitches, newsletters, informative announcements, video scripts, speeches, web/digital content, digital screens, presentations, video and other communications as needed
- Support internal communications surveys, focus groups, and measurements
- Plan and execute employee engagement events
- Take the lead on issues management and crisis communications situations as needed
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field
- Five to seven years of experience in communications, PR, or related field
- A confident communicator with superb storytelling skills and the ability to translate complex information and concepts into crisp, easy to understand narratives
- Proven track record of successfully creating communication strategies for a broad array of audiences
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills including editing and proofreading; layout and design experience helpful
- Creativity with a sharp eye for detail and technical savvy; experience with technologies and best practices across multiple platforms
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; demonstrates grace under pressure
- A self-starter with ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Change management experience desired
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office 365 suite including SharePoint; experience in InDesign and Photoshop desired
