What are the responsibilities and job description for the Andover - Kennel Assistant position at VCA?
Kennel Attendant Requirements:
The person working in this position will be responsible for: 1) pet care, 2) housekeeping, 3) treatment clean up, 4) assisting doctors and LVTs, and 5) other tasks as assigned.
Pet care can include, but is not limited to: cleaning cages, walking dogs outside (any weather) to eliminate laundering pet bedding, feeding, wearing, following directions and taking notes for appropriate medical care (e.g., saving specimens, amounts eaten or drunk, presence/amount of vomiting/diarrhea, etc.), changing cat litter, mopping floors, and shoveling snow.
Housekeeping includes tasks within the building (laundry, dish washing, dusting, sweeping, moping, vacuuming, and other tasks as assigned) and outside (collecting animal wastes, disposing of garbage, clearing walks and lot of leaves and snow, etc.).
Kennel
Walk dogs outside daily
Collect soiled bedding, dishes, and litter pans.
Appropriately clean or launder or dispose.
Clean and disinfect kennels and runs daily and as needed.
Provide food, water, and appropriate medications as instructed by LVTs and doctors.
Maintain records of food use, patient ins and outs, and other information as needed.
Empty garbage cans as needed or weekly.
Recycle as appropriate
Maintain parking lot and sidewalks (sweep leaves/debris, shovel snow, salt ice).
Requirements
A high school education is mandatory with further education in animal care, animal handling and assisting preferred.
Our assistants must have a genuine love for animals.
Must be 18 years old or older to apply.

Will be expected to meet all productivity requirements
Must be able to demonstrate team behavior and must be willing to promote a team-oriented environment
Is expected to represent the Practice professionally at all times, inclusive of proper attire and name tags
Must be able to demonstrate initiative, strives to continually improve processes and relationships

Education and Experience:
Motivation, excellent communication skills, willingness to learn, and a team oriented spirit
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required,
Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
