The Fiber Splicer will complete general labor duties related to telecommunications construction as directed by the foreman/supervisor. Duties may include all phases of underground construction including but are not limited to loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal and placement of various types, sizes and weight of construction materials and equipment.

What you’ll do at VCI Construction... (essential functions)
- Performs tasks associated with the electronic upgrade and splicing of cable
- Prep, Dress, Store fiber optic cabling to specifications and assemble equipment according to design specifications.
- Perform fiber optic splicing as well as understand engineering and splicing drawings
- Read, interpret and understand fiber matrix, plant design files and complete required documentation files, such as asbuilt in electronic and/or hard copy as required.
- Prep of armored/unarmored cables, ribbon and loose tube fiber, mid-sheaths.
- Installation and re-enter of various enclosure types, patch panel, muxs e.g. (WDM / CWDM / DWDM).
- Installation and dressing of fiber optic cables (vertical/horizontal).
- Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation
- Hanging and securing of enclosures and storage loops in aerial/ underground locations.
- Maintain proper inventory on vehicles based on work assignment.
- Safely operate and use bucket truck to complete daily construction assignments as needed (potentially climb poles)
- Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle: check fluids, clean and organize vehicle
- Complete daily production reports, mark-up maps, keep track of work hours, complete "as-built maps" for areas built and track daily production.
- Reconcile all issued parts and materials on a daily basis to ensure accurate material usage counts.
- Self-supervise all operations to ensure that all splicing operations are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications.
- Frequently work independently
- Other splicing related duties as assigned

Qualifications
Who VCI Construction is looking for… (required skills for success)
- 4 years experience in fiber optics or system assembly and testing.
- Ability to pass criminal background and drug screening
- Have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to communicate professionally and technical terms with co-workers, homeowners, and customers.
- Ability to climb telephone poles daily approximately 20’ in height
- Background in Fiber Optic splicing documentation practices
- Ability to lift and/or pull 75 lbs
- Solid understanding of the telecommunications industry and fiber splicing trade.
- Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic that can provide high productivity with minimal supervision
- Good organization, multi-tasking, time management and documentation skills.
- Dependable nature, flexible schedule, and a willingness to learn
- Willingness to travel
