JOB OVERVIEW:

The Construction Technician is a valued member of our Construction and Trades (C&T) department, which is responsible for the skilled maintenance, and construction work within our facilities. As a Construction Technician, you will help in construction and upgrades to our food processing facilities. You will also grow your skills and knowledge by working closely with other Construction Technicians and the Construction Supervisor.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Unload and install major machinery and equipment and construction materials according to plans and other drawings in accordance with food plant good manufacturing practices.
  • Move, assemble, and install minor machinery and equipment
  • Assemble, install, and erect all forms of walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs.
  • Modify existing buildings to improve capacity, safety or quality.
  • Conduct duties in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

JOB EXPERIENCE:

One to three years related experience or training

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Can set and achieve challenging goals
  • Demonstrate persistence and overcomes obstacles
  • Observe safety and security procedures
  • Report potentially unsafe conditions
  • Use equipment and materials properly
  • Able to read and apply safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Can write routine reports and correspondence
  • Able to communicate effectively with others
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, area and circumference
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Basic computer skills, i.e. email, simple spreadsheets
  • One to three years of industrial maintenance and construction experience
  • Proficiency in using appropriate hand and power tools
  • Able to work in a team and occasionally independently

 

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Or, one to three years related experience or training
  • Or, equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and risk of electric shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
