What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welder position at Vector CSP LLC?
Job Summary: Engineering and technical support to Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic for the USCG Integrated Product Team (IPT). This support primarily includes the engineering, integration, and technical services required to outfit Coast Guard cutters with C5I systems. Additionally, support includes integration and technical support for standalone shipboard systems. Scope of work includes program, engineering, technical, drafting, training, logistics, procurement, intelligence and operations support services for designated C5I systems onboard National Security Cutter (NSC), Polar Security Cutter (PSC), Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC), Fast Response Cutter (FRC), Medium Endurance Cutters (WMEC), and other afloat, mobile and shore platforms.
Requirements:
- Secret Clearance required
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Four (4) years of experience, to include: electric arc, gas shielded arc, and gas welding.
- Must pass employer performance tests, standard governmental agencies certifications, and professional and technical association certifications.
- Qualified for specific material and processes in accordance with American Welding Society Welding Handbook.
Essential Duties:
- Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
- Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
- Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
- Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals.
- Mark or tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
- Determine required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
- Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
- Align and clamp workpieces together, using rules, squares, or hand tools, or position items in fixtures, jigs, or vises.
- Connect and turn regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure so that desired flames are obtained.
- Position and secure workpieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools.
- Melt and apply solder along adjoining edges of workpieces to solder joints, using soldering irons, gas torches, or electric-ultrasonic equipment.
- Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
- Grind, cut, buff, or bend edges of workpieces to be joined to ensure snug fit, using power grinders and hand tools.
- Weld separately or in combination, using aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, and other alloys.
- Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.
- Develop templates and models for welding projects, using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information.
- Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torches, straightening presses, and hand tools.
- Clean or degrease parts, using wire brushes, portable grinders, or chemical baths.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficient at welding as follows: executing welds in all positions, with all types of metals and alloys, in various shapes including pipes, structural forms, plates, sheet metal, bar stock, machinery and equipment.
- Knowledge of safety standards and practices, including OSHA regulations and protocols for working with hazardous materials or electrical equipment
- Physical dexterity and stamina to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, maneuvering equipment, and working in confined spaces
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment, with a focus on precision in installations, repairs, and maintenance activities
- Basic troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve system or equipment issues
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals for guiding installations, repairs, and maintenance
- Collaborative team player, following instructions from supervisors and working efficiently with colleagues to complete tasks
- Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of workmanship and efficiency
- Knowledge of handling, storing, and transporting tools, equipment, and materials in compliance with organizational and industry standards
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors, providing updates and following instructions accurately.
