Velodyne Lidar provides smart, powerful lidar solutions for autonomous vehicles, driver assistance, delivery solutions, robotics, navigation, mapping, and more. Our mass-market adoption has created new opportunities in the software space, and we are currently developing a suite of new services.

 

Specific Job Requirements:

  • Personally build and evaluate prototype lidar systems.
  • Create lidar system test plans, analyze data, write reports, and present results.
  • Complete system level troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Generate Mechanical and Optical drawings.
  • Assemble optical test setups using off-the-shelf optics and cameras.
  • Order prototype materials and organize component inventory.
  • Develop assembly processes and tools as needed and write manufacturing instructions.
  • Train technicians and transfer processes to production.

Knowledge:

  • Intermediate knowledge of solid modeling with the ability to design mechanical parts and manipulate large assemblies.
  • Basic proficiency in optics along with an understanding of optical metrology and mechanical precision measurements.
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW or MATLAB and Data Acquisitions Systems.
  • Strong skills with Excel, Word, and Power Point.

Preferred Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering, Optics, or Physics.
  • 1-3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and industry experience is preferred. Recent graduates from universities are welcome to apply.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and experience with GD&T.
  • Basic ZEMAX operation in optics evaluation and analysis.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks in an ambiguous environment.
  • Experience with failure analysis, process improvements and change management.
  • Working knowledge of electronics.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
