Position Summary
The Senior Payroll Tax Specialist position is responsible for various federal and state tax compliance and related tax research associated with the PEO industry. Resolve payroll tax discrepancies by analyzing information and making necessary system changes and adjustments. Maintains standardization of processes which may include data auditing, system data validations and testing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Periodic tax data analysis, assessments and audits to ensure limited to no issues during monthly, quarter and annual return processing
- Handle tax data testing and validation as system updates are released
- Participate in and lead projects to continuously improve the efficiency of the tax department
- Resolve escalated issues with clients or internal departments
- Tax issue resolution including researching and responding to tax inquiries
- Handle W2 and Year End testing and processes
- SOP documentation and evaluation of processes for improvements
- QA tax data during conversion and implementation processes
- Research payroll laws and regulations at the federal, state and local level as needed
- Prepare or review a variety of tax related documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations.
- Perform tax reconciliations and determine liability for account, divisions or business units.
- Research, interpret and understand existing or revised tax codes and laws
- Resolve escalated issues with clients or internal departments
- Notify leadership of regulatory updates and propose and implement required changes
