Position Purpose:
The Tax Manager position is primarily responsible for the preparation of federal, state, and local corporate income tax returns for Veolia North America and subsidiaries. In addition, this position is responsible for calculating all estimated corporate income tax deposits and making sure that these payments are made timely for any legal entities for which the individual has responsibility. The Tax Manager is also responsible for assisting the Accounting Department with journal entries related to any income tax related balances in the balance sheet and income statement, and ensuring that any tax-related disclosures in the year end audited financial statements are accurate.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility for completion of federal, state, and local corporate income tax returns for the Veolia North America companies.
- Responsible for coordinating state corporate income and franchise tax audits, state sales/use tax audits, and assisting the Vice President - Taxation with federal IRS examinations.
- Responsible for implementing tax savings opportunities identified by the Vice President - Taxation and outside tax advisors.
- Maintain computerized corporate income tax compliance software.
- Assist the Vice President Corporate Taxation and independent public accountants with income tax items (IAS 12 & ASC 740) related to the year-end audit.
- Assist other professionals within the Veolia North America group with tax matters of any sort (sales/use tax, property tax, annual report filings, etc.).
- Review current tax releases and attend various technical seminars to identify law changes that impact the company. Suggest tax planning ideas as opportunities are recognized.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
- 6 years prior experience in public accounting tax experience.
- Significant supervisory experience (2 years plus).
- Experience preparing corporate tax returns.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong accounting and analytical skills.
- Strong computer skills: proficiency in Tax Software (OneSource), Sheets, Docs
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented & ability to multi-task.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors and employees.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- CPA Certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Usual Office Environment.
- Adequate lighting, comfortable temperatures, and a low noise level.
- Normal close range vision is required for reading.
- Manual dexterity is required to handle paper flow and computer keyboard operation.
- Mobility and hearing is needed to gather information and confer with others.
- Health must permit regular attendance and extended hours to meet deadlines.
