Job Description
This position will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the operations team. The position has direct accountability for the ongoing safe and efficient operation of the Burnside Site. The site produces sulfuric acid, oleum, sulfur trioxide and processes spent sulfuric acid 24/7/365.
1. Provide leadership and operational guidance for the safe and cost effective operation of the facility
2. Provide guidance to the operations team to meet day-to-day operating goals
3. Provide the first line of support to operations 24/7, 365 days a year
4. Perform First Line supervisor duties for 14 operators, such as time card approval, setting expectations, personnel management, scheduling oversight, etc…
5. Manage operations personnel staff in the areas of training, driving high performance work teams, secession planning, setting expectations and holding personnel accountable
6. Lead the hiring, training, and qualification process for new operations personnel
7. Safety, Health, Environmental leadership - driving the safety culture, leading incident investigations, updating operating and safe work practices, audting, etc…
8. Lead specific elements of the site Process Safety Management program
9. Establishing, sustaining, and improving standard operating systems, driving/coordinating continuous process improvements and quality improvements
10. Assist with process and mechanical issues via field troubleshooting and trending of historical process data
11. Lead minor plant improvements via the Management of Change process
12. Member of the Burnside Site Staff Leadership Team responsible for setting the strategic direction and identifying and implementing key improvements in support of business objectives
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing (chemical industry preferred) operations/maintenance
- Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM)
- Manufacturing experience (chemical industry preferred) which includes exposure to
systems and tools.
- Willing and able to be available and on call 24/7 as needed due to business conditions
- Demonstrated collaborative problem solving, excellent planning and organizational skills
- Proactive problem solving and utilization of data in a timely manner
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and team work
- Proficient computer skills, Microsoft/Google office suite
- Experience in Root Cause Failure Analysis and Incident investigations
- Preferred
- Experience directly supervising people
- Experience with DCS/Data Historians
- Experience working with Highly Hazardous Chemicals/High Hazard Process
- First Line manufacturing industrial leadership experience
- BS/AS in Engineering or other related discipline
- Experience with SAP
- Strong analytical skills
- Individual must possess a Transportation Identification Card (TWIC) or obtain a TWIC once
The work environment will include an office setting and working outside year round. Climbing ladders, climbing stairs, working from heights, entering confined spaces, standing for long periods of time, ability to lift 30 lbs, ability to wear a full face respirator.
