Job Description
Assist ORC with the day-to-day operations of the wastewater plant. In absence of ORC assume responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant.
Dimensions:
Assist the ORC and assume responsibility in the absence of the ORC for the operation and maintenance of a class IIIwastewater treatment plant and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations through routine monitoring and adjustment of plant processes manually and/or through computerized control systems. Assume responsibility in the absence of the ORC for contract administration as well as report preparation, contract compliance, and maintaining good client relations.
Nature & Scope-Principal Areas of Responsibilities:
- Evaluate all data and information pertaining to the proper operation of the facility and notify Plant Manager of any abnormal conditions.
- Conducts routine testing of water and records test results and maintains the plant log book with accurate and timely entries of activities.
- Maintaining the facility treatment units to include aeration basin, clarifiers, chlorine contact chamber, sampling equipment, and pumps. Identify and report the need for repairs to treatment plant equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, blowers, and chemical feed equipment.
- Monitors all charts, gauges and other operating equipment and maintains calibration of plant instrumentation and on-line analyzers according to the frequency specified by permitting agencies and/or the manufacturer.
- Calculates chemical feed rates, calibrates chemical equipments and adjusts chemical feed rates as indicated by lab tests or by direction of Plant Manager to comply with regulatory requirements as established for the plant. Adjusts or alters treatment processes as required.
- Chemical and supply ordering, receiving and handling.
- Responsible for maintaining property in good order to include housekeeping and grounds-up keep.
- In absence of Plant Manager, assume responsibilities of plant operation as directed
- This is a regular, full time working position. Must be available for overtime, weekend work and call-ins.
- Follows proper health and safety standards.
- Utilizes computers and software as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid NC driver’s license.
- NC Biolgoical Grade II or higher Operator Certification
Work Experience Needed:
Three (3) years of progressive experience in wastewater treatment plant operations.
Special Skills/Abilities Needed:
- Knowledge of effective process control and operating techniques associated with an activated sludge wastewater treatment facility
- Knowledge of basic electrical, mechanical and instrumentation systems is preferable.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards and precautions pertaining to utilities operations and maintenance procedures.
- Ability to develop, organize, and manage records and reports pertinent to the plant operation.
- Strong desire to establish and maintain effective working relationships, teams, and work groups with other employees, contractors and the general public.
- Strong ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and effectively communicate with others.
- Strong aptitude in the use of computers and other technology used in the utilities profession
