Head of Product Development

The Position

We are looking for a talented Head of Product Development to lead our team of scientists and engineers in developing innovative NGS-based molecular diagnostics assay products. In this role, you will be responsible for leading assay development, as well as collaborating closely with cross-functional partners in support of technical transfer to our CLIA labs and regulatory submissions. You will collaborate with other senior leaders to align the R&D strategy with the company's vision and goals. This is a high-impact role in which the successful candidate will see the fruits of her/his/their efforts implemented rapidly in clinical practice. This position will report to the CSO and will be located primarily on-site at either our South San Francisco or San Diego office, with frequent travel expected between our two sites and occasional travel to our site in Marseilles, France.

Who You Are

To be successful in this role, you should have:

• An advanced degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field (consistent with a Ph.D. level education)
• At least 10 years of progressively more senior roles in NGS diagnostics or similar, with at least 5 years leading multi-level organizations (i.e., managing managers)
• Prior experience leading cross-functional teams in the design & development of automated NGS based molecular diagnostic products for CLIA labs
• Ability to use multiple kinds of data to drive decisions; direct experience analyzing and interpreting NGS data preferred
• Proven leadership skills and the ability to empower, inspire, and create cohesion across a diverse team, ideally across multiple geographic locations
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
• A strong track record of delivering results and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Strong experience with change management, and ability to lead teams through ambiguity and change
• The ability to work within and across teams to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work under pressure, and adapt to changing priorities
• A passion for innovation and a vision for the future of NGS diagnostics
• Prior experience developing NGS tests in a regulated environment (i.e., CAP, CLIA, NY, ISO 15189, ISO13485)
• Experience in regulatory affairs, clinical trials, and intellectual property protection (preferred)
• Sound knowledge in verification & validation activities, as well as clinical studies in pursuit of FDA or IVDR clearance. Significant contribution to the successful clearance of an FDA or IVDR regulated medical device. (preferred)
• Knowledge of cancer biology (preferred)

The anticipated base salary range is $265,000 - $300,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several objective factors that may include, but are not limited to, the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience within the industry, education, location, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Compensation and Benefits Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
