Job Description
AER, located in Lexington MA, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented senior staff accountant with strong working knowledge of GAAP and Cost Accounting, excellent financial analysis, and communication skills to join the busy finance team.
This role will be responsible for maintaining Company’s general ledger, preparing periodic financial reports, performing account reconciliations, assisting with revenue and expense forecasting, and performing other accounting and financial analysis duties as assigned. This role will also participate in the AER and Verisk annual and quarterly financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting process, including but are not limited to compiling financial data and review materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs all aspects of month-end financial closing duties including journal entries and preparation of the financial statements and reports, in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures, as well as AER CAS Disclosure Statement and the FAR.
- Provides support to various aspects of the accounting duties, which include, but are not limited to, revenue, accounts receivable/unbilled/retainage, cash, fixed assets, labor distribution, account flux analysis, account reconciliations for the accounting books maintained in both AER’s Costpoint and Verisk corporate accounting system PeopleSoft.
- Interact and work with Verisk corporate accounting, HR and the payroll and compensation departments to obtain financial backup documents and sort through any accounting issues as they arise.
- Participates in the planning and budget process, including annual budget, quarterly reforecast, and multi-year planning, utilizing Excel and Oracle EPBCS.
- Coordinates with the project accounting team and Contracts to prepare and review pricing or costing worksheets and labor rate buildup in response to proposal solicitations.
- Participates in the annual DCAA Incurred Cost submission and provisional billing rates preparation, as needed.
- Provides support to various DCAA audits and reviews, Verisk corporate requests, proposal reviews and examinations, and other internal or external compliance calls.
- Assists with Verisk corporate initiated annual income tax, R&D tax credit, state sales and use tax, gross receipts tax, business tax and fee filing and preparation, as well as the annual inventory review and tagging.
- Performs ad hoc tasks and analysis as assigned by the managers.

Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Engineering and/or similar discipline with analytical bias
- 5 years of accounting or finance experience
- Working knowledge in Cost Accounting or job cost accounting is a must
- Excellent Excel and analytical skills
- Proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously
- Experience with an ERP package; Costpoint/Peoplesoft preferred
- Experience working with reporting tools a huge plus (i.e. IMB BI, MS Power BI, SQL)
- Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to interact rationally with all personnel
- Attention to detail, results oriented, multi-tasking, and be able to respond to urgent needs and meeting deadlines required
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment, challenge, and multiple deadlines and priorities.
