What you’ll be doing...
You will join the 5G Network Planning organization that is leading the evolution of the wireless network towards designing and deploying the next generation of enterprise, Telematics, IoT, and MEC services. You will be responsible for planning, designing and architecting all aspects of the Verizon’s 4G and 5G core network and services as well as MEC and IoT/Telematics solutions. As an Architect, you will have responsibilities ranging from working with the business and sales teams to gather requirements, designing solutions, selecting vendors and then working with multiple Network, IT, Device, and Finance teams to plan, design, test, and deploy new services in the Network, and then analyze and report on the results. You will also be responsible for tracking new development in relevant standard bodies (3GPP, GSMA) and working closely with other organizations to ensure VZW aligns with, and leads the industry in the development of new technologies and capabilities. You should be prepared to lead multi-departmental teams in an effort to design and deliver on key strategic business objectives that have highest visibility and strategic importance to Verizon Wireless.
- Leading the architecture evolution and planning of 4G and 5G Core infrastructure and service platforms will be key aspects of the role. As a domain authority, you will also provide technical leadership and direction to vendors and internal organizations.
- Leading development of detailed VZW technical requirements for new features and services around 5GC and MEC capabilities.
- Working with network vendors to develop requirements, features, methods, and tools to support development and deployment efforts.
- Providing leadership on RFI/RFPs, leading vendor evaluation and selection for the different MEC/4G/5G/IoT/Telematics network elements and capabilities, negotiate and manage vendor contracts and relationships.
- Leading cross-functional teams around deployment of new services, production support, and sales training and engineering support, as appropriate. Provide guidance to staff members, peers, customers, partners and vendors about the new capabilities and future roadmap.
- Researching and evaluating new technologies and translating business objectives and strategies into plans.
- Conducting feasibility analysis and vendor evaluation, developing project plans, driving IoT, handling contract/vendors, leading HLD effort, and supporting deployment.
- Analyzing complex problems around MEC, IoT, and Telematics services space, propose and implement technical solutions and make recommendations that offer optimal technical, financial, and strategic advantages to Verizon’s portfolio of network services and capabilities.

You’ll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience.
- Strong experience in Cloud and Networks (3GPP/GSMA/LTE/GSM).
- Knowledge of the LTE and 5G RAN and Core elements.
- Knowledge 3GPP, GSMA, IETF standards.
- IP communications experience (LAN/WAN/routing/switching).
Even better if you have:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Technology Management, MBA, or similar from a top-tier educational institution.
- Experience in network planning, technology development, standards group participation, experience and leadership in Network architecture, engineering, and implementation teams.
- Strong telecommunication and/or consulting business experience or past experience with Tier 1 vendors or carriers.
- Knowledge of virtualized implementation (SDN/NFV/CNF) of Wireless network nodes under NFV, OpenStack, etc. Understanding of new virtualization techniques like containers, WebScale architecture, Kubernetes.
- Experience in detailing call flows, developing interface specification, calculating system and transport forecasts, and performing capacity analysis.
- Ability to generate, understand and interpret technology standards and make it a part of the design solution for projects at play.
- Interpersonal, leadership, organizational and people management skills.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in an unstructured environment.
- Experience creating and presenting technical recommendations to stakeholders and senior leadership teams.
- Proven ability to develop and implement interdepartmental processes and procedures designed to support broad reaching business initiatives and goals.
- Contract negotiation and vendor management experience.
- Experience successfully leading technical deployment of new wireless products and services.
- Financial analysis and budgeting experience.
- Willingness to travel.
