We are looking for a talented lawyer with initiative, good judgment, effective communication skills, confidence and common sense, who is hard working and able to handle a high volume of varied and complex matters independently.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing legal advice and analysis on a wide range of health and safety matters.
- Representing Verizon and overseeing outside counsel in various enforcement and administrative proceedings with OSHA and various state and local workplace health and safety agencies.
- Assessing and advising on compliance with health and safety requirements, including overseeing audits and investigations.
- Reviewing health and safety provisions in various agreements including customer requests for proposal and sourcing agreements.
- Coordinating responses and internal investigations following safety-related incidents.
- Providing counseling on a variety of health and welfare plan regulatory compliance matters, including Affordable Care Act, ERISA, HIPAA and MHPAEA.
- Providing counseling on a variety of employment-related matters, including disability accommodations, leaves of absence, employment discrimination and harassment claims, discipline and termination matters, reductions-in-force, wage and hour compliance and personnel policies and procedures.
- Managing external charges, investigations and audits by administrative agencies, such as the EEOC.
- Participating in merger, acquisition and business development due diligence and other assessments.
- Reviewing and providing advice and comments on pending legislation and rulemaking activities by Federal and State bodies and helping to develop programs to assure compliance with changing laws and rules.
- Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with clients, support teams, legal personnel and customers.
This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Six or more years of experience in health and safety, regulatory affairs and/or labor/employment/benefits legal practice in a law firm or corporate legal department.
- Active law license in good standing with a state bar and eligible for New Jersey limited In-House Counsel Licensure.
- Business acumen, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to analyze and devise solutions to legal issues under tight deadlines and with limited supervision.
- Willingness to travel.
Even better if you have:
- A degree.
- Strong project management skills with successfully managing complex projects from inception to completion.
- Ability to work with multiple internal and external groups simultaneously to quickly achieve common goals.
- Ability to interact comfortably with personnel in various roles and levels across the organization, and enforce legal requirements without alienating clients.
