The Verizon Sustainability Team drives our overall sustainability strategy, programs and engagement across the company and with our partners. This includes working cross functionally with various organizations throughout our global operations. Key focus areas include Verizon’s ambitious targets for energy efficiency, renewable energy, carbon emissions reductions, Science-based targets, and value chain engagement
This position is that of a multi-faceted Sustainability Project Manager including strategic decision making, operational oversight, risk management analysis, external liaison responsibilities and program leadership. This position is responsible for corporate benchmarking of the competitive landscape regarding sustainability and identifying opportunities for growth, innovation and making recommendations to senior leadership. This position is also the liaison with third parties including those in which Verizon is a member. This position is responsible for developing process improvements around GHG emissions reporting and key ESG metrics in compliance with existing and pending legislation.
As a Sustainability Project Manager you will also be responsible for improving and expanding Verizon’s ESG reporting with primary focus on greenhouse gas emissions accounting and energy reporting capabilities. In addition, this individual will enable the architecture required to advance our analytical capabilities. This position requires excellent communication and leadership skills to lead conceptualization, testing, and execution of advanced data modeling to drive emissions reductions and support stakeholder engagement. A working knowledge of greenhouse gas accounting principles (GHG Protocol) and application in the corporate sector, including familiarity with operational (scope 1 and 2) and value chain (scope 3) emissions categories is desired. This position will also facilitate the internal and external verification of key ESG metrics – key indicators of Verizon’s progress toward internal and external goals.
Responsibilities include:
- Program management across multiple corporate functions.
- Expand Verizon’s GHG inventory reporting capabilities (scope 1, 2, and 3), ensuring data integrity and governance processes are in place for our internal and external verifications procedures.
- Expand current renewable energy reporting for emissions inventory.
- Build framework, processes and capacity building tools for managing value chain data collection and program engagement.
- Contribute to GHG reduction strategy through research, analysis and recommendations.
- Track progress against targets and benchmark performance against key indicators and stakeholder expectations.
- Analyze and leverage energy and greenhouse gas emissions forecasts to align stakeholders on projects and program direction.
- Develop materials to drive internal engagement and to build effective relationships with key partners.
- Leverage systems, database tools, BI and advanced analytics capabilities to support the business.

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Six or more years of relevant experience.
- Experience with data management, architecture, analysis and visualization.
- Experience managing multiple strategic projects simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

- A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Administration, Supply Chain or related field.
- Financial and analytical skills.
- Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Access or similar database capabilities skills.

- Exceptional relationship building skills; the ability to network independently and successfully engage support for initiatives across organizations.
- Excellent executive communication skills, both written and verbal.
- The ability to develop quantitative and analytical solutions using big data and disparate data sources.
- Proven ability to effectively engage and influence functional leaders and stakeholders.
