Position Summary:
BayFirst Solutions, A Subsidiary of Versar, is seeking an experienced User Experience (UX) Designer to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in Washington, DC.
We are looking for a skilled UX designer who can work both collaboratively and independently in an environment that values innovation, flexibility, and creativity. The designer must have strong visual communications skills and demonstrate the ability to develop strategic design solutions to address client communications and customer engagement. This position will map out screen flows, wireframe concepts, apply visual design, and build prototypes.
The designer will partner with content strategist and developers to deliver intuitive experiences that meet both client an stakeholder needs. Ideal candidates must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and exhibit proactive-problem solving. Strong written and verbal communication skills, while being organized and detail oriented, are critical for this role.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide expert-level user interface (UI) design services, including designing highly usable web page/site layout, navigation, and content elements.
- Produce high-quality, web-ready graphics in quick turnaround time.
- Work in partnership with cross-functional teams. Consider every aspect of the user's experience, with client and stakeholder goals, to coordinate and deliver wireframes, high-fidelity designs, prototypes, and documentation, to the highest possible standards.
- Use a variety of qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques to continually improve the user experience.
- Analyze data and user feedback to make critical design decisions. Utilize expert understanding of the latest technology and devices to produce technically achievable and efficient interactive solutions.
- Expertly present design solutions to clients and project teams. Ensure the success of the strategy and the ability to champion the best possible user experience. Iterates on designs based on feedback from clients.
- Partner with IT project teams throughout development to execution. Test or oversee testing to ensure adherence to defined design and behaviors.
- Train and mentor junior staff in best practices of user experience design
Education Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in Human-Centered Design, Digital Arts, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- 5-7 years of industry/field experience
- A digital portfolio of prior design work is required when applying for this position
- Expert in all areas of user experience design including information architecture, visual design, interaction design, and user behaviors.
- Experience translating client and stakeholder needs into UI designs.
- Have a strong design point of view and understanding of fundamental design principles, typography, layout, grid systems, hierarchy, color, and composition.
- Ability to clearly articulate design recommendations through written, verbal, and visual communication
- Has a high degree of creativity, empathy, and problem-solving ability.
- Ensures experiences meet DEI/A11Y best practices
- Ability to quickly learn technology.
Software Required:
- MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat
- Possess a strong working knowledge of UI and Design software (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Photoshop, Illustration, InDesign)
- Experience with Drupal and MS SharePoint is a plus.
