Vertex Education is a management organization that provides business services to schools. Areas of support include academics, special education, finance, IT, facilities, food services, HR, communications and marketing, compliance and construction. The goal of Vertex Education is to be a resource and service to schools that are not able to offer these services in-house. Vertex currently manages 23 schools comprising of more than 23,000 students in 3 states.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The ESS Compliance Manager will oversee compliance to state and federal requirements in programming, documentation practices, reporting, and new school launch. Supervises regional Records Coordinators and a Compliance team who support Vertex-managed schools. Assists with research and launch of ESS programming and practices in new regions and states.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Supervises Regional ESS Records Coordinators and the ESS Compliance Coordinator to ensure site-based programming at Vertex-managed schools is in compliance with state and federal requirements.
Oversees documentation practices at Vertex-managed schools. Develops standard operating procedures to ensure Best Practices in documentation and records maintenance.
Ensures ESS programming aligns with local policy and state/federal requirements. Identifies trends in programming and assigns resources to affect change.
Researches requirements and builds policy and standard operating procedures to expand Vertex’s management of schools into new regions and states. Assists with new program start-up.
Consults with leadership at Vertex-managed schools to identify needs and build capacity for site-based oversight of ESS.
Oversees ESS Department projects and ensures completion through direct or indirect efforts, including
Alternate Assessment
State Monitoring
Internal Audits of ESS paperwork to identify trends, strengths, and needs
Implementation of professional learning opportunities to improve compliance
Reporting for ESS with state and federal authorities
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Supervises ESS Records Coordinators in all states in which Vertex manages schools
Supervises ESS Compliance Coordinator and ESS Analysts
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Education, Licensure, or Certification
Special Education teaching certification
Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field
Work Experience or Related Experience
5 years of experience in special education as a certified/licensed member of an IEP team.
2 years leadership experience in special education or a related field strongly preferred. If no formal experience exists, informal leadership activities may be substituted (Department Chair, Committee Chair, Event Leader, etc).
Demonstrable knowledge of federal laws and corresponding regulations pertaining to K-12 education for students with disabilities.
Operational understanding of the educational requirements of states within which Vertex manages schools regarding program support & monitoring.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. The ability to articulate knowledge and professional judgment clearly and in a compelling way.
Superior organizational and prioritization skills. The ability to plan, set short-term and long-term goals, adjust priorities, and oversee programming at multiple campuses across a large geographic territory.
Sound problem solving and decision-making skills. The ability to make decisions on a deadline in the best interest of the schools and their students.
The ability to make data-based decisions for performance improvement of personnel and refinement of special education programming and procedural practices.
Exceptional composure. The ability to face challenges, disputes, and urgent needs with a cool demeanor and an objective mind.

The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check
Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times
PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
Travel between campuses is required approximately 25% of the time.
Valid driver’s license is required.
This position requires the need to lift objects (up to 25 pounds) on occasion.
This position may require sitting for long periods at times, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping and long periods of concentration.
Local, in-state, and out of state travel required.
