Position Title: Refinery Process Operator
Job Description Summary:
The Vertex Mobile, Alabama Refinery is hiring Process Operators. This position will oversee and manage production by operating, monitoring, and troubleshooting production units and their equipment to ensure personal safety, process safety, plant reliability and product quality. The production units consist of typical refining operations including tank farm, marine loading docks, and truck rack operations.
Essential Job Functions:
- Learn how to and operate production units
- Ability to work with others and effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Actively participate in a team environment
- Monitor and accurately record temperatures, pressures, and flow rates
- Tank gauging, truck loading/off-loading, and marine dock management, including working on and around marine vessels and boats within a water environment
- Ensure compliance with and carrying out all production, maintenance, health, safety, security, and environmental policies and procedures
- Oversee permitting of unit maintenance activities
- Ability to take immediate corrective action in the event a potential unsafe act or behavior is observed
- Read and interpret plant process drawings
- Perform preventive maintenance
- Troubleshoot unit upsets and equipment issues
- Use computers and other devices to carryout work activities
- Participate in emergency training and respond to emergency situations
- Climb ladders, climb stairs, enter confined spaces, lift 50 lbs., and work outside in inclement weather without accommodation
- Work at heights including from scaffolding and grating
- Work in a loud industrial environment
- Work 12-hour shift work including rotating day and night shifts, holidays and weekends
- Respond to unscheduled callouts
- Complete required health, safety, security, and environmental compliance training
- Use proper personal protective equipment
- Adhere to site alcohol and drug standards including random drug screenings

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications:
- 3 years of relevant experience as a Process Operator or Gauger and/or a Process Technology degree preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be authorized to work in the United States permanently on a full-time basis without requiring sponsorship
- Must possess and maintain a current valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States
- Must be able to read, speak, and write English fluently
- Hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card - Information may be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic
- Have or be able to obtain a Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response certification
- As part of the pre-employment selection process, candidates are required to submit to and receive satisfactory results from all pre-employment background checks: including but not limited to drug screening (including a hair sample), medical evaluation, and reference checks.
