Primary Function & Position Overview:
The Vice Principal will assist the Principal and Chief Executive Officer by acting as one of the primary instructional leaders in the building. Overseeing both instructional and non-instructional teams, the Vice Principal will be charged with creating a culture of high expectations, openness to feedback, and an intentional focus on using data to drive instructional and culture decisions. The Vice Principal will work alongside the Principal and IB Manager to chart the course for all Vertex students to succeed in an IB environment while pursuing the Middle Years Programme and, eventually either the Diploma or Careers program.
Academic and Strategic Planning
- Support teacher development based on the outcomes of observation and coaching meetings.
- Implement large scale curricular decisions as guided by IB Manager
- Develop teacher-leader capacity by coaching of department chairs
- Support the implementation of the academic support program (RTI)
Professional Development
- Co-plan, co-lead, observe, and share feedback on professional development aligned to school priorities
- Lead professional development for non-instructional staff aligned to school culture priorities
Coaching and Classroom Feedback
- Coach Student Support Team through observations of “reset space” and weekly check-in meetings
- Work with Principal to to effectively lead Student Support Team, discipline, and school systems through weekly coaching meetings, PD, coaching feedback, for disciplinary protocols
- Observe teachers and share observation feedback weekly
- Share observation trends in weekly Leadership Team meetings
School Culture
- Co-create a vision for school culture aligned to IB and Vertex’s cardinal virtues
- Own school culture through clear discipline systems that are followed through upon consistently and fairly such as reflection protocols, tracking of detention or culture data, family contact, and cultural data reporting
- Identify patterns in school culture through intentional data analysis and when appropriate, proposing specific research-based scholar supports root in response to data
Staff Evaluation
- Evaluate instructional staff and non-instructional staff using evaluation tools
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree, Masters degree preferred.
- Fluency in a second language (Spanish) preferred
- Minimum of three years experience in a school leadership position
- A flexible attitude, commitment to lifelong learning, and a sense of humor
- Flexibility of approach and a collaborative style
- A commitment to viewpoint diversity, open inquiry, and experiential-based pedagogy

This role is a full-time, in-person opportunity. As an employee, you are eligible for a benefits package, inclusive of paid time off, paid holidays and a retirement plan. The salary range for this position is $104,000-$123,000 which will be based on the candidate’s years of full-time experience and educational background.
