The VA Southern Nevada Health Care System is currently recruiting for a full time Maintenance Worker position with the Facility Management Service located at the Las Vegas Division. Performs a variety of skilled preventative maintenance duties in the repair, alteration of grounds, exterior structure, building, and related fixtures and utilities.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Responsibilities:
The Maintenance Worker will modify mechanical equipment, machinery and building service equipment, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications, using hand and power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments. Inspects equipment and facilities for proper operation and working condition, and as necessary, adjust, repairs or replaces parts or components, and tests for proper operation after repairs are completed. Evaluates and makes minor repairs as necessary. Checks preventative maintenance inspection (PM) schedules, verifies physical location, type of equipment and performs required maintenance on listed equipment.Major duties include but not limited to:
- Electrical: Routine electrical maintenance, replacement of switches, receptacles, and fixtures. Performs routine inspection of heating and air-conditioning equipment including fans, motors, dampers; replaces filters as necessary, and maintains records of repairs. A variety of electrical repairs such as replacing fuses, fluorescent ballasts and tubes, light bulbs and other simple elements of electrical repair.
- Plumbing: General plumbing maintenance skills required to maintain, repair and make alterations to water, air, and sanitary plumbing pipes and fixtures. Tests joints and pipe systems for leaks and repairs, replaces valves, repairs leaks, and clears drain stoppage. Perform other related duties as required.
- Carpentry: Routine inspection and repairs items such as cabinets, doors handrails, etc. Repairs/replaces door closures, door stops, clothes lockers and other related carpentry duties. Applies basic knowledge of mathematics in planning and measuring needed materials for correlation of job. Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools utilized by craft.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm or 2:00pm-10:30pm

Physical Requirements: Lift, carry, push or pull a variety of materials and equipment such as fixtures, tools, ladders and testing equipment. Climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to make necessary repairs.
Working Conditions: Perform work inside and outside buildings. Will be exposed to inclement weather at times, also exposed to hazards of electrical shock and burns, as well as grease, chemical solutions, and falls from ladders or scaffolds. Subject to noise from machinery or burns from heated equipment.
Salary : $28 - $32
