VHB is looking to provide the opportunity for a Civil Engineer/designer to work within our growing Renewable Energy Market practice with a focus on all phases of renewables development, including solar, EV charging, and battery storage facilities. This position provides an excellent career growth opportunity working with other emerging professionals within a vibrant and expanding professional environment and entails mostly office-related work associated with completion, management, and coordination with a variety of VHB services related to project development. Some work in the field is also expected. The position is based in South Burlington, Vermont or Albany, New York areas depending on the selected candidate and VHB’s needs in the region. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will assist our Energy Team members located primarily in the New England Region.
Responsibilities
- Work within an integrated team of civil, water resource, and electrical engineers, ecologists, regulatory specialists, surveyors, transportation designers, project managers, attorneys, and landscape architects in developing site civil plans and specifications for a multitude of renewable energy infrastructure projects with a focus on sustainability and resiliency
- Prepare sketches and calculations for site plan designs (e.g., layout and grading).
- Assist in the preparation of siting and other site civil-related permitting materials
- Construction stormwater monitoring support
- Technical and design report writing
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
- Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with other emerging professionals and managers
- Ability to work in a fast-paced office, virtual, and field environment, in rural or urban environments
- Proven strong work-ethic and self-motivated to produce high quality outcomes, highly organized, and detail oriented, with ability think creatively and formulate solutions
Qualifications
- Minimum of 8-11 years of engineering experience, depending on level of education
- 11-15 years of engineering experience preferred
- BS in Civil Engineering (a master’s degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience)
- PE licensure required
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Upstate, NY is $100,000-$175,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
