Description

Job summary:

The Engineering Intern will be a member of the Via Seating NPD team and be involved in engineering needs, new product development and improvements. The hours of the Engineering Intern will be part-time and flexible to accommodate scheduling for school.  The Engineering Intern is a Safety Sensitive position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in New Product Development projects and prototyping process.
  • Help support and maintain engineering database.
  • Problem solve, redesign and redevelop component to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Create and revise work instructions and assembly drawings.
  • Documentation of components and explore options for product improvement.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned or required.
  • Follow company policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and practices
  • Present a professional and positive image at all times.

Desired Education and Skills:

  • A student currently majoring in the field of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer operation skills are required. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word is required.
  • Familiarity with document control processes is preferred.
  • ERP / MRP software experience is a plus.
  • CAD (Solid works) experience is highly preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Vision, hearing and speaking to meet performance standard as indicated above.
  • Required to sit, stand and walk during the course of a day. Must speak and listen in English both in person and via telephone, use keyboard and mouse to navigate software programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Regularly going into the production area and donning protective gear as required.
  • Should be comfortable with the use of both hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 40lbs.

Work Environment:

  • A combination of both a typical office environment and a typical production area in an environment that contains dust, odors, moderate level noise, and temperature & ventilation variations while wearing safety glasses
