Job Summary:
The Maintenance Technician performs maintenance and custodial tasks in and around the Vilas County Courthouse/Justice Center and other County owned facilities. Responsible for performing the Maintenance Supervisor duties in his or her absence. All duties and responsibilities are performed under and subject to the review and guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor and the Public Property Committee.
SECTION II: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Aide the Maintenance Supervisor in implementing an effective maintenance, repair and remodeling plan within all county-owned buildings in Vilas County. This includes but not limited to assisting in cost estimates, materials preparation, monitoring and documentation.
2. Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and instructions.
3. Ability to use and interpret computer generated software and programs.
4. Checking and responding to security and safety issues in the Courthouse/Justice Center complex on a daily basis.
5. Maintain the areas around the Courthouse/Justice Center complex. This includes but not limited to landscaping activities, lawn mowing, tree and shrubbery trimming, snow/ice removal on sidewalks and parking lots, garbage and or anything that could pose a safety risk.
6. Performing daily checks of generator, HVAC software, plumbing and electrical systems.
7. Performs custodial duties within the county buildings including but not limited to cleaning hallways, rest rooms, offices, and other rooms; waxing floors; storing supplies in proper places; cleaning up accidental spills; removing garbage and other litter wherever and whenever found; and keeping drinking fountains and other public water facilities in a clean and sanitary condition.
8. Due to the nature of the work performed in certain Courthouse offices, Sheriff Department, Jail and other county owned buildings, must maintain strict confidentiality with respect to all other aspects of the job.
9. Schedule, train, supervise and or manage other maintenance staff and or cleaning contractors in the
Maintenance Supervisors absence.
10. Ability to run the departments daily operations if the Maintenance Supervisor is absent.
11. Must be available for call-in to work outside of the normal work schedule as deemed necessary by the Maintenance Supervisor.
12. Keeping documents of inspections and problems.
13. Pool vehicle maintenance which is limited to cleaning and taking for oil changes when needed.
14. Construction skills such as carpentry, electrical, painting, masonry and plumbing.
15. May oversee the work of relief workers, service volunteers and jail inmates as needed.
16. All other duties deemed necessary to aid the Maintenance Supervisor in carrying out the operations of the Maintenance Department.
Education/Knowledge:
High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
Other: (3) years building maintenance experience is preferred
Must possess a valid WI driver’s license and adequate auto insurance. A successful applicant must pass an extensive
Sheriff’s Department background check prior to employment with Vilas County.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM POSITION:
- Knowledge of custodial duties, and construction skills such as carpentry, electrical, painting, masonry, plumbing.
- Knowledge of codes and standards related to public buildings including occupational safety practices.
- Must be safety-minded and always aware of potentially hazardous conditions both in and around the County buildings.
- Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Physical strength and dexterity to lift, move and handle equipment.
- Ability to work in extreme hot or cold conditions.
- Stamina to deal with long hours standing or walking.
- Strong verbal and written communication for discussing maintenance issues.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of low voltage electronic equipment testing and repairs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.60 - $23.40 per hour
