JOB TITLE : JRC Counselor
POSITION GRADE : 73 Salary Range : 15hr-20hr commensurate with education and experience
FSLA : Non Exempt
DEPARTMENT : Juvenile Reporting Center (JRC)
SUPERVISOR : JRC Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY :
Under the general direction of the JRC Program Supervisor, the JRC Counselor is responsible to provide quality care and supervision for the clients assigned to the JRC program, carrying out the treatment plan designed for each client;
Carries out all job responsibilities with fidelity and accountability to the Agencies Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles and Strategic Plan.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Exercises full compliance with the Agency’s Code of Conduct, all Agency Policies and Procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality and security for all client and staff related materials and / or records.
- Directs clients in the daily routine of the JRC Program
- Provides individual and group supervision to clients in care and accounts for all in his / her care at all times.
- Participates in the cleaning and upkeep of the JRC facility.
- Prepares meals on time carefully following menu plans.
- Upholds all rules and structure within the JRC Program.
- Sets behavioral limits for clients within the JRC Program.
- Applies approved crisis intervention / prevention techniques utilizing accepted practices per Agency policy and procedures.
- Assists program supervisor and case manager in life skills and / or psycho educational groups for youth in the program .
- Transports clients to and from program activities.
- Assists recreation staff to develop weekly recreation activity calendar and supports the youth while participating in the activities.
- Maintains daily and group logs for each client.
- Completes daily progress notes into the NYS CONNECTIONS data base system.
- Serves as the primary counselor to designated youth determined by the supervisor.
OTHER RESPONSIBLITIES :
- Adheres to established policies and procedures and makes suggestions for improvement as needed.
- Exhibits punctuality, attendance, meetings, trainings and other assigned duties.
- Other responsibilities as designated by Supervisor.
- Demonstrates, promotes, and practices cultural competency towards clients, families and staff with respect and understanding achieved through training and Agency cultural activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- High School Diploma or GED required. Associates degree in the human services field preferred.
- One year of child care experience is preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS :
- Must be able to work evenings.
- Possesses a valid NYS driver’s license in good standing.
- Comfortable with community based work with high risk youth
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
The following lists physical demands an employee will perform on a regular basis : standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling and climbing stairs.
